I think this is the end of my buying weird, unusual things. Last time was that wooden elephant sculpture and now this. I think this one may be worth more. Here I have a wooden box with Asian writing on the outside and inside the box.(I think Japanese) Inside the box is a wooden scroll (Has wooden dowels? on the bottom and the top) the top larger dowel fits into wooden grooves on each side inside the box.

This scroll is approx 8 feet long. It is a painting of a bird. It has more japanese writing and red stamps on it. The scroll itself looks like its silk with a gold brochade (sp) pattern on it with the long picture in the middle. There are two loop (?) made of the same material on the top as well as a long braided silken cord.

How in the heck am I going to take fotos of this thing? I guess in sections. Maybe it's too good for ebay. I have No idea where to start. Any thoughts or ideas on this are greatly appreciated.

I have successfully taken pictures of sections of a long item such as yours (not as nice, though) and pasted the pics together in photo editor. It takes some patience. Then you would use a listing template that allowed you to place the pic up and down on the right or left, text next to it. Or use different pix of each section, posted separately, each above the other.

And it is "brocade". You were close. And yes, from your description, they would be fabric "loops". I am pretty certain it would be silk. Perhaps someone here can give you help with whatever the characters mean if you post that pic.

I searched eBay with "silk scroll" in All Categories. There were 67 results.

I removed the link here since it was 2 feet long and messed up the display on this thread.

Check the completed items as well.

Good luck!

Paloma...If it's only 8 feet long, it should be a piece of cake. I once sold a Bud Light backdrop sign that was 24 feet long when unrolled. I strung it up between two trees in my front yard and had to get out in the middle of the street to get it all in the picture. Then I got closer and took pictures of three 8 ft. sections. I had to do it in a hurry. Everyone who drove by thought I was giving away free beer. I was afraid I might cause a traffic jam

Sparkz, that would be great if I had two trees to use. I'll have to think of something.
Stop, this puppy isn't new. the box is really beat up. The scroll is in good condition. On the back, I see some water marks but not on the front. The lady I got it from said her mom bought it when she was on a trip a long time ago. Who knows what the real story is. I'll try to take some fotos some how tomorrow so you can see what I have been trying to describe.

Thanks so much
