This is probably NOT a lladro piece. Probably either a wanna be or some unknown maker. any clues?

This is the only marking on the bottom and it is written in gold. Don't know if you can tell that by my foto or not

Paloma

I don't know who the maker is, but it's beautiful!

Enesco or Lefton would be my guess.

How now??

NAO is their off-brand line -- looks like LLADRO without the fine detail!

Lladro. Oh my, oh my (wiping away tears of laughter). That's priceless.

No, it is not a Lladro.

It is an example of a very common religious figurine / statuette / bust of the woman variously known as the Madonna or the Virgin Mary.

Like this:

I imagine it's instantly recognizable to most Catholics.

I'm assuming that Paloma knew it was Mary, but wanted to know the maker.

The point is not that it is Mary.

The point is that it is probably not a piece of high-priced pottery; it is a knickknack of the type you will find in households of certain religions all over the world, as well as being a staple in tourist shops.

I've seen wallpockets that were identical to this item. She doesn't have a big open pouch on her back, does she? Or a big hole in the back of her head? (No jokes, please.)

it is not a serious question,it is a irrelevant question.
someone sold you a rolex watch from the back of a truck parked in a dark alley, and you take it to the main street and ask who made it??
better, take it to a rolex dealer and ask who made it??

Paloma said in her OP it was probably not Lladro and asked for clues on who the maker might be. That's all.

Max gave her some hints.

There was and is no reason to disparage her.

Teacher and everyone else. I did know that this was not lladro. I was just trying to figure out who made it. I will start looking up: Enesco, Lefton and NAO.

Now that you have listed an auction above with the same mark on the botttom as another piece I have. Anyone know what company that mark belongs to?

Thanks everyone for your help and support on this

4156 is a number ,which may mean the serial number or some code which indicated what year it was made.
There is no way to find out from 4156 who made it??
Whoever made it just dont want to be known it is making it.
i dont know really why you keep pursuing this who made it business??
if i am making fake rolex,i sure dont want the world to know me joe doe made the fake rolex??
There may be some one who has seen this figurine before and know who made it??But what good does it do for you unless you are thinking of asking them to make knockout for you??

stopwhining, I am sorry you misunderstood my question. As I said in the previous post,...."looking up: Enesco, Lefton and NAO."

iareateacher posted a link to an auction above:
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=35826&item=6111877813&rd=1

I saw the marking on that and I was wondering if anyone knew the mark on that piece.

The mark in the link you provided is the Nippon Yoko Boeki Co. They made the Hummel knock-offs you see from time to time.

Glad to help. The one in your link is probably 1950's. As for Lladro, I feel the same way about it as I do for Precious Moments - overrated and overpriced. I've seen some darn good Lladro knock-offs. If I'm going to spend big money on a piece of porcelain, I'll take a good 17th or 18th century piece of Chinese porcelain over Lladro anyday! There's just no comparing the artistry or workmanship. Besides, as with Precious Moments, you are mosting paying for the name when you buy Lladro.

No insults intended to either Lladro or PM collectors. If it's your thing, it's what you gotta do. . .

Edited to add: You will probably never know who made your figurine. The number is probably a model number. But, that's okay because I still think it's pretty.
