No, the small group of people who only talk to each other "care" about each other. And it's such a small group that I could count them off on fingers and toes without running out of appendages.
Take a look at the thread authors sometimes, and the people who respond. 20 people produce 95% of Vendio Community postings. Over 10,000 people read. You do the math.
Historically, lurkers to forums such as the eBay Outlook have complained that they don't feel welcome to post a message because there is a clique in place that doesn't talk to new people.
Witness recent newcomer "DrDolittle" who felt what he said was a "chill".
Posting threads that are meant as personal messages to one person and one person only is another clique behavior. Just publish your public (yahoo or hotmail) free email address in your Vendio profile and anyone can contact you offline.

Hi Aint, Glassgrl and David,
I feel for the two of you in the storm's path... Hopefully it won't interfere with your eBay selling!
Is McJane in your area? Haven't seen her lately.
My grandchildren live in P-cola. A few years ago a hurricane was headed right for their street. Fortunately it veered about a mile off and missed them. Was a big mess, though.

In order to please a poster or two on this board, I wonder what effect this will have on eBay? There, it's now eBay related.

My thoughts and prayers are with those of you in Bonnie's path. Here in CA we just have to worry about earthquakes.
I do not post often but have learned so much from all of you that I would not wish ill to anyone on these boards.
Perhaps if one's tone was a bit lighter, one might feel more welcome. Seems to me life is too short to be so mean-spirited and "superior" so much of the time.

Cheryl..Actually, it could have a big effect on some Ebayers. There was a severe ice storm a few years back in the Tennesee area that left many people without power for several days. The sellers who had auctions ending around that time were unable to see which of their items sold, much less contact the winners until power came back up. A hurricane could cause the same type of problems, plus a few you don't know about. Such as someone waiting to snipe one of your auctions who loses power 5 minutes before your auction ends

well shoot, everybody knows you can't sell on Ebay if you're in the middle of a hurricane!
I knew it wasn't Ebay related but I couldn't hold out any longer, which is why I titled the thread McJane. I haven't seen McJane post since 2 weeks ago when she said they were supposed to be demolishing her old house that week and I got worried about her. She hasn't answered my emails.
Sometimes by posting here I can shame her into replying

MyOldToy,
I stayed at the Pensacola Navy Lodge three or four times before my son retired from the Navy. That's where I saw the beach. He took his helicopter pilot training in P-cola after USNA.
Yes, that beach is definitely impressive! The sand is SO white. What surprised me was the drop-off of about three feet from the ground proper to the actual sand. Maybe the tide was out?
Anyway, I sure hope the beach stays as nice as it is and Bonnie and Charlie (they shoulda named him Clyde...) don't mess it up.
You know, this might sound kinda stupid but what happens if two hurricanes meet in the ocean and become one? Does that happen?? I'm earthquake-savvy (live in California) but don't know much about hurricanes.

Lucy,
No, two hurricanes can't become one. You do have the fujiwara effect where they do a kind of rotation and then go their separate ways. That's only on fully developed, strong storms. A hurricane is able to absorb a depression though.

tsunamii is right Lucy.
several years ago, a class 3 stage hurricane, in the mid atlantic, absorbed several tropical despressions as it crossed the atlantic...about 200 miles from florida, it was creating the lowest barometric pressures on record, and was a class 5 when it hit miami...i want to say hugo, but i think it named something else... T may know...

The lowest barometric pressure and strongest cane to ever hit the US was the 1935 one that slammed the keys. Estimated winds were 200mph+. Only 3 cat 5's have made landfall as a 5. That's the 1935 one, Andrew (which the NHC recently upgraded to a 5) and Camille. The deadliest was the 1900 Galveston one which was a cat 4.
I think the one you are thinking of is Floyd in 1999. It was a strong borderline 4/5 that skirted the majority of the east coast. It had the 3rd lowest barometric pressure of the last century only behind the 1935 hurricane and Camille.

Tsunamii,
Floyd in 1999? Did it go landfall in the Florida panhandle?
Not important, just wondering if that's the one that was so close to my relatives... They had to evacuate to Jacksonville. A harrowing trip.

Lucy,
Floyd skirted the east coast and devastated North Carolina with major flooding. The entire coast from Miami on up was affected, even New England.
I'm trying to think of one that hit Jacksonville. That area gets hit quite a bit by storms. There hasn't been a major one hit there in a long time. It doesn't even have to be a hurricane to cause major damage. We got hit by TS Allison a few years ago and some areas got 37" of rain.

Strange how hurricanes can slam the East coast all the way from the Keys to New England, and there has never been a Hurricane make land in California, Oregon or Washington. We've had a couple tropical storms that have eliminated the need to water the front yard for awhile, but never a hurricane. Guess we'll just have to settle on earthquakes if we ever want to make the front page.

Hi everyone, I've been here 3 or 4 times everyday, just haven't felt much like posting since my cat, Ziggy, died. I'm starting to feel better now & glassgrl always seems to have a way of getting me out of my depression by asking about me, bless her & all of you too, it's so nice to be missed.
glassgrl, I haven't received any email from you, wonder why.
Funny, I was wondering if you were in Bonnie's path, if you are....get out.
I wish I had of left the house when hurricane Isabel showed up last September 18th. I wanted to, but my husband said not to worry & I listened to him when I knew better. We are both lucky to be alive. With the hundred or so trees around our house one was bound to come down sometime & one sure did with a direct hit that as you know totally destroyed our house
Lucy, I live about 20 miles from Philadelphia, PA & 6 miles from Delaware.
Now, I have some long awaited news.
TOMORROW demolition starts, FINALLY. It's been a looooong 11 months living in this trailer & everyday looking up at our poor broken down house.
Here is one last look at what hurricane Isabel did to us & I can't wait to post some pictures of our new house. It won't be long now.
glassgrl, if you are in the storms path, please, please get to a safe place.
Our trailer taken from the front steps of our house.
