I try, I really try, to be fair to everyone. I hope for the same from others. I send personal emails + invoice from eBay with the total and accepted payment methods to the buyer after auction. That is three ways a person would know everything they could possible need to know.
1-the Auction page, 2- the eBay invoice, 3- the personal email.
My auctions on both Ids plainly state NO personal checks, and the shipping amount and DO NOT bid if shipping amount stated is a problem.
Here is the scenario this fine morning,
I received a personal check $2 dollars short of the actual total due.

I have had people send personal checks and I follow standard guidelines for out of state checks.
Had the payment been the correct amount, I would have deposit it Monday and wait 7 banking days and send the package on 25th?
I guess a person could miss the payment methods and total in the auction,AND the invoice AND the email.
Hopefully you folks can help me understand.
Also. I am tempted to return the check. It is just $2 but to me this is blatant disregard of the terms of the auction.

I would email the bidder to tell him/her that you are returning their check and that you will need one for the proper amount. If you accept this payment you are sending the message that the bidder and dictate the terms of your auction. I'd give them a couple extra days to get the right amount to you. If you do it in a tactful manner without being judgemental, you will hopefully have no problems. Good luck!

Write back and tell them that you received their check in the mail but it will take 7-10 days to clear so if they want it by that date, they will have to pay with paypal.
Then you can send the check back with the item.

well, everything is hunky-dory. It was a mix-up
in the auction payments being sent out.
I understand cuz I have mixed up orders. So all is well with that problem.

LOL- the reason I was soooo fast to get upset is another story...it really is a doozy - here goes - last week a zero feedback newly enrolled eBayer bid on my auction. It was her first ever bid on eBay (under this Id anyway) At 4:01 AM (my time) She emailed asking me to overnight the item and wanted the shipping cost.
Of course, although I do work about 16 hrs a day -I DO SLEEP about 4-5 hrs .
I answered her email at 8:45 AM with the requested info.
Never heard anotherword from her for 7 days.
I sent her an email yesterday and she emailed me saying I had caused her not to have her item because I did not respond to her email in a timely manner. She needed the item for her trip to the beach. GOSH-if she was leaving within 4 hrs -how did she expect to get it it??? Maybe she was up at 4 AM with
with her Two Buck Chuck. Isn't eBay a learning experience?
99.9% of my experiences are good but every now and them I croos the path of a real doosy.
Sorry about this manifesto
