I just sold a lovely bow pin with a BIN. It was a black enamel and rhinestone piece, with the rhinestones trimming the edge of the bow. Really pretty.
Today I got this email
"I received pin today from you. Thank you for your prompt shipping. You did not mention that the pin had gold in it. The description said black and rhinestone.
The pin is nice, but I do not wear gold. I would like to return it as I will not wear it. Please advise. Thanks"
It's true I didn't mention that it had a gold back (no gold shows from the front) but if I were a buyer who only wears silver - I think I would have asked as there is a 50/50 shot of it being gold.
I guess I will take the pin back but I don't think I should pay or refund any shipping. I would be happy to refund everything if I had made an error??

I think there's something wrong here. Many of us prefer silver to gold jewelry, but gold backing wouldn't matter a bit. Is it a religious thing with her?!?

If she insisted she didn't want it, I'd ask her to pay the shipping back to me.

Tell her to go ahead and send it back and it must be in the same condition as when you sent it to her. Then you can also let her know, when you get it back in the same condition, that you will issue a refund for the purchase price. You should eat your ebay fees and you did make the mistake of not stating the gold part.

I normally do a front and back photo but this wasn't an expensive item and I listed directly with ebay so I didn't even think of it this time.
I am a silver (or white gold is even better) person myself - and I would have asked before bidding or at least before paying.
I am thinking of asking her to hold it and I'll relisting it - if it sells she could just mail it to the new winner and everyone is happy?? Is that too risky on my part? I would not refund her money until I hear from the new winner?
Stone - I never considered asking for the fees back. I try to list as much information as I can in every listing but anybody can forget something once in awhile. Hope she never bids with the sellers that just go "see photo"

I would take it back as long as she pays return shipping and your fees. I think she just got something she decided she doesn't like.

I just got done with something close to that. I sold a piece of jade, the buyers friend told her it wasn't so she wanted to return it. I never even went into the "jade" part of it with her. I told her that I would give a full refund if she sent it back to me as originally packed, with insurance and DC. She did and I sent a full refund for both the original price and shipping. She was so happy that she left a positive feedback and then went out and spent more on other items than she spent the first time. She got them the other day and emailed me with how happy she was and thanked me for the way I handled the first purchase. So... build a customer if you think you can, by offering the refund. (I have owned a Brick & Mortar store for 10 years and know an unhappy customer will never return however one that has gotten more than they expected will)

Whenever I get a P&M'er, I refer him to our COMPLAINT RESOLUTION DEPT...Ralphie!

Nah! What I usually do (except for my NIB drop-ship items which have their own return policies) is offer a 100% REFUND + Shipping X2 -- ya know the wierd thing? Virtually NOBODY returns anything!

I think they just be sniffing around for a handout???

Well I went back and looked at my auction and the photo again. I sell a lot of jewelry so I don't memorize each piece but as it turns out there was gold on the front of the bow also. The problem was that there was a shadow on the gold which made it appear black. So it does show gold on top and she can't use it.
You know I can't even buy lunch with this money, so I will give it all back. Kevin I know you are correct - good will is worth more than a few dollars.
Thanks everyone for the good advice.
