I think a better title would have been "people will buy anything. After all, he's got bids on all of 'em.

Just offered to adopt a doxie, if we can get her out to California. Sniff, I miss my Heidi.
We got Heidi as a 6 week old pup and, as we had the kids, she got fat following them around! She sure earned her keep, ridding the house of stray food stuff and activity alarm. I would totally spaz her playing 'sock', she actually developed bleeding colitis from getting too wound up--toned it down. I called her my 'mentally disordered sock offender'. We moved to Salt Lake City when she was older and she loved the snow. It was hilarious to watch her leap through the snow, who knew a doxie could leap? We were strapped for cash, but when her tumors got large we bargained the vet down from $600 to $300 to whack them out. We didn't need the tests and such, it bought her another year. I ended up living is SLC and commuting back to my job in California, Heidi was doing very poorly, but she waited for me to come home and died with her head in my hands being told what a good doggie she was. Dammit, now I'm crying.

Park
You got me crying too. Some people just don't understand how we can grieve over the loss of that very special pet. I lost my beloved Charlie over 1 1/2 years ago and I still cry about it about every other day. But the days I don't cry I remember all the love he gave us and the thousands of times he made us laugh.

Oh, Parklane, I'm so sorry to hear about Heidi--she sounds like such a wonderful dog. You got me crying, too!
If the adoption you are trying for doesn't work out, you might want to try www.petfinders.com, a site that displays the listings of pet rescues, shelters & pounds from around the country. I just looked, and there are several dachshunds and dachshund mixes available right here in California. You might want to take a look.
