Now I have your attention! I recently purchased a book of baby knitting patterns to sell on eBay. It was published on the continent, and I didn't notice until I got home that some of the babies in the pictures are completely naked, or naked from the waist down. Being an RN, mother of 4 and grandmother of 10, it doesn't bother me at all, but I am wondering if it would be offensive to some people. Should I mention it in my listing, or just to the winning bidder? Of course, I won't put those pictures on my listing.

It might be good to mention it but I would avoid the words "naked babies" unless you want to increase your bidding pool to include some people you may not want to deal with. I once looked at the feedback for someone and saw that every one the hundreds of items they bid on had the term "naked" or "nude" and something about children in the title. Creeped me out! As a rule I don't like euphemisms but in this case I would might try to find a way to warn bidders without catching the eye of bidders of a certain interest.

How about "undressed" or is there a better term? These are just little babies, but I don't want to attract anyone looking for that kind of this, this is a knitting book, and that is what I want to sell it as. That's why I wondered if I should just mention it to the winning bidder.

If it were me I wouldn't mention it until the WBN. That way you'd be less likely to atract that horrible element of society that photosensitive aluded to.

I'd tell the winner that I found the pictures innocent but just wanted to let him or her know and if they had a problem with it, they would be free to back out of the bid.

Thanks cherishedclutter, I think I will do that, I would hate to attract the wrong kind of people. It's a lovely book, but published in the days when there didn't seem to be such an issue with things like there is now.

You also have to think about the other side of the coin. There may be some idiot out there who doesn't realize the whole thing is innocent and tries to get you in hot water for selling child porn. There have been a lot of people get in trouble for doing every day normal things.

How many pictures are you talking about?

Maybe you could dismantle the book and not sell the patterns with the undressed baby pictures. Just the other ones.

I know that sounds kinda strange but single crochet patterns removed from books or magazines do sell. Knitting patterns don't seem to be as popular as crochet but who knows?

There are just 2 babies, and baby boy and a girl, but they are full size. I don't think it would work to take it apart, I guess I could cut out the questionable pictures, but I am wondering if a buyer would be upset by that. I have decided definately not to mention it on the auction. I have always offer to remove the parts for the bidder.

Leave it as is. You can state that there is even two cute bare bottoms inside. We still live in a society that accepts a bare bottom for just what it is.

I wouldn't harp on it though. No more than a sentence or two.

I don't think it has to do with the buyer being upset. Photosensitive is correct. If you put "naked babies" in the auction you might end up with a whole bunch of unwanted attention.

If it were me, I would mention it in the description. Not make a big deal of it, just say something like, there are two pictures where the models are unclothed, or something like that.

Lucy, I agree with you. This is all about inhfants not strippers. I can't believe that anyone would be shocked at seeing a nude baby. osh I remember changing diapers on my 3 sons & getting shot with a spray of U no what. That was 40 yrs ago & I remember it well!!

Sanmar, LOL. We never forget that spray, do we?! Memorable.

If you decide to mention the bare bottoms in your WBN, you could even offer, if the buyer wishes, to remove those two pictures from the book before shipping. I know this sounds drastic.

There are so many perverts out there and I agree with those who suggest you not use certain words. Lucy's idea was a good one here, I think.

OMG...I agree with parklane!!!!!
I would not mention them at all.
it is a non issue.
These are contextual for the knitting patterns.

I agree. It's pretty bad when one must suffer angst over something like that.

If it was just bare bottoms I wouldn't even have asked the question. I think you call it "full frontal", certainly not offensive to me. Having worked for some time as a head nurse on a preemie unit, and as a trained midwife, I've had plenty of those "sprays", I just don't want to cause offense to anyone else. I guess that most people buying a book of baby knitting are quite used to all those "bits and pieces", lol!
