Help - what were those plates that Ralphie found awhile back called? Crazy senile family whack job left a few behind with a note stating they were flow blue but even I know that ain't right (thanks be to these boards).

these pieces have a definite penn dutch feel to them ( danish family history ) both in design and colors but they seem to be a combination of sponge and brush work. Also some of the detail paint on one set has a metalic gleem to it - any idea what that means in terms of dating?

If it's really "common" sense, why do so few people actually have it?

Something like "stick splatter"? That is a vague memory but someone will be along with the answer soon.

Fenix,

Do a search on "Spatterware" or "Stick Spatter" rather than "splatter."

You can actually start with a site called - oddly enough - http://www.spatterware.com.

Also, Pennsylvania Dutch has a German derivation, rather than Denmark.

Hope this helps a bit.

Another way you might see something similar is Gawdy Dutch or Gaudy Dutch.

Ralphie! If that was your plate, you let it go for a SONG!!! Live and learn, I guess. Next time you run across something like that contact a B&M Auction House and have them sell it when they have a collection of the stuff up for sale, huh?

FB:

items are worth what folks are willing to pay, right?

Now, Ralphie's TOTAL INVESTMENT for BOTH PLATES was $4...& he gobbled up $450.00 for da PAIR afterwards

Now, you ready to really SHOUT AT THE DOG?? Get this: he almost LISTED THEM AS "2 for $10"

Fortunately, I convinced him to post pics here & we got WONDERFUL GENEROUS advice here.

WE both are happy!

Oh darn...I missed being the first person to answer this question this time around. I must pat myself on the back (pat pat pat) for answering tomwiii last time and assisting him in fetching that $450.00. I tried to get him to split it with me...but he didn't go for it.

I was lucky enough to find a stick spatter bowl at a yardsale on Saturday. A 50c find! Yippee!!! It's a keeper.

I'm the one who said "splatter" but I did qualify with "Something like". I also admitted that I was calling on a vague memory.

Tomwiii that was some serious china that Ralphie found!
