Toasted,
Keep an eye on it. The map will automatically update each morning and evening at 5 and 11. I advised Glassgrl to have a fast car with a full tank of gas and to park it pointed to the north. You might want to consider doing the same.

Sparkz, are you the official weather guy on this board?

You remind me of this guy I once knew. One time we were having a bad blizzard and he couldnt catch a train to long island so I told him he could stay at my apt during the storm rather than hole up in the train station. He stayed up all night huddled with a little transister radio listening to every tracking report about the storm. But he was a real radio type geek. He could tell ya every station in the country's call letters, where they were, and what format the stations were.

I could never really get into weather - to me if its raining its wet lol -- but can see where the science of it all fascinates some....

Neroter,
Nope, not a weatherman by any stretch of the imagination. However, the county of California I live in is the second largest in the nation in agricultural production. Weather is an extremely critical factor in our economy year round, so most of the accurate weather related websites are well publicized here. There's actually some very informative and interesting things on most of them. Besides, if severe conditions are forming, I like to know if it's heading my way. I hate crawling under the bed if it's not necessary

Neroter,
Yeah, I thought a few of the Vendio users in Florida and along the east coast might want to keep an eye on Jeanne. The map as shown now is a 5 day projection with a high margin of error, so it will change several times as Jeanne becomes more defined. No need for Toasted to panic just yet. The early probabilities chart by the NWS bookies shows the East coast of Florida as a more likely target. And to make it even more interesting, an unnamed tropical depression has just been upgraded to a tropical storm named Karl, and is about 4-5 days behind Jeanne.

Personally, I'd like to thank Sparkz for posting the chart.
It saves my lazy butt from having to search thru the NOAH pages
and I dread turning on "fear TV", aka, The Weather Channel.

With Sparkz chart I can come to my favorite board.

Thank You,Thank You!!

ltray,
Just hope it keeps you on the alert. Actually, most people are not aware that at this very minute, Hurricane Javier is off the coast of Mexico and heading straight for California. The long range projection would bring it ashore around Vandenberg AFB, across Sanmar's front lawn, up the coast and in Lucy's front door, out her back door, over the coast range, through my back yard and wind up in Parklane's living room. We don't ever worry about these things for two reasons. First, California has outlawed hurricanes. Second, they always fizzle out over the cool water in Northern Mexico and the leftover moisture heads over Mexico to Texas. We just kind of glance at them from time to time and wish we could get 2 or 3 inches of that moisture, but it rarely happens and the Texans get it all.

Tom...The latest map shows it heading north and missing Florida altogether. Ironically, a couple of the computer models are crediting the remnants of Ivan with holding it at bay.

Jeeze, Sparkz...

Javier? A hurricane in my yard?? My lemon tree will drown.

Come to think of it, one of my plumber's laborers is named Javier.
He crawled under the house when they put in my forced air system.
But that's completely OT, isn't it?

Lucy

Edited to add some line breaks so my post doesn't scroll off the page.

Lucy,
When I saw the original projected path for Javier, it was headed for Vandenburg. It would have followed the path I described. Don't worry, it took a right turn about 100 miles south of TJ, so the texans can get out their umbrellas next week

Sorry about the size of the image and the scrolling it requires. It is a direct link to the site so it updates automatically. No way I can think of to downsize it and keep it alive.

Moisture is always attracted to warm air. Since there is more hot air coming out of Texas than there is California, they get the rain. This is especially true if all Texans speak at once

I'd be happy to send you some rain! We're water logged thanks to the three hurricanes. My windows rattled all night last night and I didn't get a wink of sleep. I just couldn't imagine being in the middle of one of those when they're full force.

Our streams and rivers are overflowing and they fear flooding from the Ohio River. All summer it was rain, rain, rain. Not a good year for Ohio's crops and it's reflected in the price of produce! I never put away my sweaters this year.

This weather is crazy, I tell ya. Just plain crazy.

Lucy,
According to the discussion in the link, Jeanne is supposed to go northeast and fizzle out, but there may be a high pressure ridge that blocks it and turns it back to the west towards Florida. The ironic part is, that a hurricane needs warm water to survive, and if it approches Florida's east coast, it may hit the cold water wake left by Frances and fizzle off the coast of Florida, or weaken enough to not be much of a problem. Strange, Florida's coast being protected against another hurricane by hurricane Frances.

Also note they are forcasting 120 hours out, and they make a point of noting there is a higher degree of uncertainty and error margin than usual.
