Dear Seller,
In our last announcement earlier this summer, we said that Half.com would be closing on October 14, 2004. We have decided not to go forward with this plan and will keep Half.com open indefinitely.
Over the last year and a half, our efforts to prepare for a consolidated marketplace for Books, Movies, Music and Video Games on eBay have helped many Half.com sellers transition to eBay, especially during this past back-to-school season. Many of you have reported being successful on eBay while growing your overall sales by selling on both platforms. This has contributed to the biggest back-to-school season ever experienced on eBay. However, with all the growth in the Books, Movies, Music and Video Games categories on eBay, we have not seen a corresponding drop in business on Half.com. In fact, loyalty to Half.com has remained strong as we witnessed yet another outstanding back-to-school season on Half.com. The buying and selling activities of the eBay and Half.com communities have proven that the Books, Movies, Music and Video Games marketplace can be more vibrant with both Half.com and eBay.
We have heard from many of you that you want the Half.com site to remain open and to have the option to sell on both platforms. Your input, as well as the data and experience we have gained during the transition efforts, are the basis for our decision to keep Half.com open. There will be no substantive changes to Half.com in the foreseeable future. We encourage you to sell on both Half.com and eBay to maximize your sales, as many of you have already done throughout the transition period. Going forward, we will invest in both platforms and allow sellers and buyers the flexibility to benefit from the unique opportunities they each allow.

Well, this sure is an interesting development! It certainly makes ebay look like an incompetent organization for this to happen. I have to admit I've been winding down my half.com business over the past 6 months, and now it is here to stay! Ultimately, it has not been a bad thing for me. Will I stay with half.com - Yes, because they are quite useful for some of the things I sell. It has forced me to step out of a business model that I had been comfortable with, to one that will be more profitable. Well, I am glad they are here to stay.

I used to have 3000 books on half.com. Now I have about 25. Most went to Amazon. Some went to my Ebay store.
I have a some decisions to make now. Re-establishing my inventory on half.com could take some time. Idiots.

I haven't listed or sold anything on half for the last couple of years. I didn't like that I had to wait for my $$$ for up to 30 days. Is it still that way, or has this changed?

If you opt in for direct deposit. They "send" the funds on the 1st and the 15th...it takes awhile to hit my account though. I can usually count on it around the 8th and 21st.

Those of you who have hundreds or even thousands listed on half, how do you ever keep up with your payments?
I was really afraid Ebay would try something like that and I would have had to rely on a web page and some other venue.

It's not really a big deal to keep up with the payments. Once the order comes in on half, it is good as the money in my own account. I do speak with some experience, I am looking at my half.com stats, and have sold over 10,000 items on half, and have never had a billing issue. It is more of a challenge to keep up with billing on ebay because there are so many ways people can pay. With half, there is only one way.

Thanks! I guess if I take a step back and look, that is a lot of stuff...Just checked, and since January 1, I have shipped 7697 packages from half, ebay and amazon. No wonder people take their break when I walk into the post office lol...back to work now
