A 5.0 just hit near Tehachapi (actually it was a place called Keene) about 15 minutes ago and rolled up the valley. No word yet on damage or injuries. Looks like California is getting ready to rock and roll.

Maybe the big one is just around the corner and California will slide under the waves. They do say its only a matter of time.

Jack.. I remember the networks interviewing a Harry Truman just before Mt. St. Helens blew. He absolutely refused to evacuate, and the volcano got him. The one we had today sort of concerns me. It's on a fault that runs through Kern County. The last big one from that fault was a 7.8 in 1952 that destroyed a good portion of Bakersfield and several other towns in the central and south valley had major damage. It's the reason you can't get a building permit to build a brick house in most parts of the valley any more. I've felt my share of quakes here. The Coalinga quake was a violent one, and the San Francisco quake hit as I was coming home from work. I was on top of a freeway overpass when it hit. Didn't know what it was until I got home and saw the news on T.V. Took a few sips of Jack Daniels to calm my nerves after that one

Jack-Im from N.Y.,but I was out in Vegas for 2 weeks in Feb of 71 to see Elvis when the L.A. quake happened.I dont remember the exact date but it happened the first few days I was there,so it was probably around the 7 thru the 9th of Feb.It was felt midly in Vegas, but everyone thought there was some
nuclear testing going on in northern Nevada, until the news came on later that day.
