Sorry, I crashed and burned last night, you know how it is We had a day long yard sale yesterday and company from out of town to boot.
Since I know you hate to have to go to page 2 to read the answers I'm going to start another thread.
I briefly searched on PC Pitstop and while it seems that they CAN do what they say, I see that others have been suckered by the popups within that web site and accidently clicked on them thinking they were the program. I've never recommended them myself.
I'm going to tell you like I would anybody else....a computer is not a toy but a machine. And you need to learn how to operate it! There's no need to throw the baby out with the bathwater, although if you want to keep buying computers you can.
However, along the way, you run the serious risk of infecting other peoples computers if your OWN is not secure. That's what makes me mad.
Yes it takes time to run these virus scans. Yes it takes time to setup and run SpyBot, Spyware Blaster and Adaware. But programs like that keep you from getting where you're at now.
It's like not brushing your teeth every morning and then wonder why they all fall out of your head or nobody wants to be close enough to you to be your friend.
You're a Marine, now bite the bullet and do what has to be done!
At the very least, get a computer with installations disks and a CD writer so you can back up your important files and then REFORMAT the darned thing.
Or make a very good friend that actually likes to keep your computer clean and up to date!
I ran both of the virus scans I sent to you last night. Neither one found anything but neither asked me for any money either.
You STILL aren't saying if you're running Windows 98 or not. Fine, install another browser like Mozilla or Firefox but you will STILL have the problems.
We can fix it if you'll just take little baby steps and stay in communication.
Did you download Hijack this to your desktop? Or did you get the Access Denied when you went to the page?
Did you run either of the virus scans I sent you, or did you just get disgusted after PC Pitstop?
Go get you a Dell or Walmart sells HP for around $500.00 with Windows XP on it and a year of free Virus protection. (Don't buy a E machine no matter how cheap they are!) How much have you invested in all those other computers? Enough that you could of bought ONE up to date computer hmmmm?
You have a virus or trojan on your computer. That's not hard to do these days.
As always, I recommend
1. Virus Protection
2. Spybot AND Spyware Blaster and run BOTH weekly.
3. Adaware
IF you have just those 3 (ok 4) things on your computer AND you run them, update them...the odds of ever getting into trouble are less than 10% maybe.

I have to disagree about the e machine - I'm on the 3rd year with one emachine and nearing that date with the other. Never had a bit of trouble (except with kids download of KAZAA but that's another story) and they run fast and have all kinds of stuff stored on them with CONSTANT use...when they are done working or get outdated I will just get another pc with no regrets (unlike my $4000 486 set up).

About the E machine, no offense intended. However!!! The only reason I said that is that XP is a different system than 98 and an E machine from 3 years ago is a horse of a different color from one today. E's basic machine is not powerful enough to run XP efficiently.
I wouldn't recommend a Compaq either but then that's just my own personal opinion. I didn't say anything about not buying one of those.
I noticed a while ago that you could get an E machine dirt cheap and inquired about them. I was told by someone that works on computers and fixes them that I'd be wasting my money.

My emachines came installed with XP glassgrl and haven't had a bit of trouble! Never had to have anyone look at them either...maybe the person who works on PC's wanted to stay in business! LOL
If this thing breaks I'll just replace it and not mess with fixing it.
