I sold two patterns to a customer. One she won by bidding, which closed at $31.00, and the other she purchased in my store to receive free shipping (a special I run). She didn't purchase insurance, so I did DC the package. She received the package and wrote to me today stating that one of the patterns is missing a page. I remember clearly double checking that pattern and ensuring that all of the pages were there, especially the page that she says was missing because it is a graph and without the graph you can't make the item. So when it comes to these types of patterns, I always make sure the graph is included. I checked the magazine where I pulled the pattern from and that page is not there.

I checked her feedback and she only has a feedback of 1. I have a funny feeling that because she spent so much money on the pattern, that she's claiming it's missing a page so that she can receive a refund. (Even if I ask for the pattern back, she could have photocopied it.)

I wrote her back stating that I remember double checking the pattern to ensure all the pages were included and asked her to check again.

How would you all handle this?

You have to weigh out the cost and or loss of your pattern/sale vs. the cost to sales of your Ebay business when she negs you (assuming she will, I bet she will)
Only you can really answer...
I've been there its not fun

I know it is hard to take a neg, but it's not the end of the world and it won't hurt your business. By now, it's only the newbie's that think a bad feedback will ruin a seller.

This is a newbie. What she is trying to do is steal. If you give in to her, she is going to try it again and again. If she threatens you just remind her that you can absorb the neg, while the one you give her will be sitting out there like a sore thumb. It will hurt her a lot worse than it will hurt you.

If she gives you one, so be it. Respond to it and go on. You have good feedback. Your buyers will see it as one out of hundreds wasn't pleased. Then look at her feedback. I personally don't think buyers look at feedback. There are too many with hundreds of negs doing better than any of us here.

I guess it is your word against hers and since she has the patterns it is hard to say who is right. In another thread wgm asked the question about taking a book apart for patterns and I for one wouldn't do that for fear I would forget a page or it was continued on the back of a different pattern. What pattern is missing the paper? The one she paid the most for or the other one. I think if it was me I would refund the money for the pattern that is missing the piece. If she is a crocheter she will probably be a repeat bidder.

Good Luck
