Hey Vendio can we have an Overstock thread? They are a major contender. They are where Amazon and Yahoo SHOULD BE. How are they doing it? I don't know -- but I got bids like crazy coming in, as opposed to Ebay, where I owe them big fees for no sales.

Love ya OVS!

I second the motion! Overstock does look promising.

Why not just keep this thread alive. There are a lot of things I would like Vendio to do and developing a forum for a 2-week old venue is not among them! Maybe when the site ages and continues the apparent success.....

Overstock's API won't even be available for a number of weeks. Vendio can't even consider adding Overstock to its supported sites until it evaluates the API.

I would be interested in Overstock, in part because of its no sniping philosophy.

I just registered with Overstock and took a good look at the listing process. First snag I see is the image fee. Some of us use several images per auction item, and it looks as though that could add 50 cents or more to the basic listing fee.

And it doesn't look as though we have templates to choose from. Please correct me if I'm wrong.

Is there a gallery feature?

Maybe Vendio could change the name of the Amazon Auctions forum to Overstock Auctions

Hmmm, image fee? I don't think they charge, unless you upload more than one.

Salgal: I wasn't clear about the image fee.

What I read this afternoon is that after the first image, images are 10 cents each. I almost never use just one image, so that was my concern about added costs.

I just listed my first auction today, and was somewhat disappointed in their system, but they are working on it, and hopefully it will improve.

The very first thing I noticed at the O was that you couldn't search auctions that ended, so you really don't get a clue whether listing is worth it or not, unless you monitor it at the very end.

One thing that I am not sure if Yahoo auctions still does, but I used to like their feature where if you were still getting bids towards the end, the auction would be extended for a short period of time (perhaps 30 seconds to 5 minutes, I can't remember) after each posted bid. I liked the idea of that, because it helped a seller. I'm not sure if that led to more bidding, or if it just discouraged bidders.

I am interested to see how things go on the overstock site. I hope it works out well, and enough people start using their system to buy and sell. I'm also curious to see what happens if and when Vendio supports their system, especially with the extra dime we have to cough up to add an image.

Overstock extends auctions that have bids in the last five minutes. I believe they extend for a further ten minutes. I have six auctions on Overstock, one has a bid. I sell vintage jewelry and small antiques. I find it easy to use and they are pretty responsive. I sent an e-mail question and received a response in about 30 minutes, a personal e-mail, not a canned one. It remains to be seen how well sales go, but it would be nice to have an alternative. Even with the 10 cents for an extra picture, their prices are still pretty low.

The gallery is part of the basic listing. When you search, the photo will show up in front of your auctions link.

You can put any number of pictures hosted by your own source (Vendio for example) in your listing text at no additional charge. The charge is for the Overstock hosted pictures.

Now, anybody has the chance to say he or she had Barry Bonds' 700th home run ball, if only for a moment in cyberspace.

The ball will go on sale in a nine-day Internet auction starting Monday, said the attorney for Steven Williams, the Pacifica man who emerged with the super souvenir from a scrum in the left-field bleachers at SBC Park last month.

Bidding on Overstock.com will start at $1, and there is no reserve, allowing just about anyone to experience the thrill of having No. 700. But as is the custom with Bonds' balls, the top dog at one moment is likely to get clobbered the next.

"If we did it with the big auction houses, it wouldn't have the fan appeal, it would just go to the big shots," said Daniel Horowitz, Williams' attorney. "But I've got to be careful; someone who had the high bid for 30 seconds on the Web site may claim to have the ball."
