I have never complained about Ebay - because I don't know enough to complain, but -----
this new thing of absolutely having to go through Ebay to contact a buyer or seller is just driving me nuts.
I can't cut and paste into my Yahoo account. It always returns the email.
When you send a letter, specifically, an EOA letter, the page is full of just stuff and your letter to the buyer is squashed into a small box and looks like one big run-on sentence.

If you get the End Of Auction notice that ebay sends, it has the buyers email just under the payment instructions. I click on that and Yahoo opens a new window with the address inserted for me. Aside from that you can go in to your preferences and set them so that the buyers email address is visible. (Don't remember the route because I just "stumbled" on it.)

When I receive the EOA from eBay, I send my personal note from there by clicking on the buyer's name and address. It is pre-filled with their name and the item # as subject. Works pretty well for me. I also send the eBay invoice from there.

Two things. First: On the winning bidder notice that you send, make sure you only have the e-mail address in your send to box. Often you can get an arrow > or < or and extra _ . Also, never just click the e-mail address on auction type notices. Copy and paste it. Otherwise it will open another window and fill in a whole bunch of useless crap. On fixed price items, you can simply click the e-mail address and go from there. No BS added and no new window.
Second: On the ask a question e-mails. Never ever use the link provided by ebay to contact the potential bidder. Take and right click the auction link and use copy shortcut. Then click the reply button. This will get you in direct contact with the buyer and not through ebay. Then make sure to paste your copied short cut in the e-mail so the buyer can go back to your auction. Then simple answer the question.

Thanks, everyone.
I will try using Ebay's notice and see if that works.
Copying and Pasting to Yahoo or even typing in the address just doesn't work. About 99% of the time, the letter will be returned. I have no idea why, but it has always worked that way for me.
I did change my preferences and it displays the email address, but it doesn't open up the yahoo page as it once did.
This paranoia on Ebay's part just seems unnecessary. I know people do attempt to sell without paying the fees, but all one has to do is ask the seller some innocent question - then they have an email address to conduct any correspondence they wish with the seller. (Well, of course, I can't. I do assume others don't have the same problem with their email that I do.)

I usually print the first page or two of an auction as it ends. If you are signed in to Ebay, the buyer's e-mail appears on the first page of your ended auction.
But I do what others do here, too. When I get Ebay's EOA e-mail (item sold! etc.), I click on the buyer's e-mail right there and send my personalized EOA message, which has paragraphs (what a concept, huh?!).

Andy Rooney on "cripes":
My wife's from the midwest. Very nice people there. Very wholesome.
They use words like 'Cripes' 'For Cripes sake.' Who would that be; Jesus Cripes? The son of 'Gosh' of the church of 'Holy Moly'? I'm not making fun of it. You think I wanna burn in 'Heck'?
