The top one is the famous "Tooth-ache Takeo", the fanged warrior with the fatal fondness for sweets & hero of Kurosawa's "The Hidden Fortress", which was plag'ed by Lucas for "Star Wars"...

Reminds me of an interesting story about two missionaries climbing Mount Fuji...

Yup, Japanese actors!
They may be popular figures in plays, or fables or stories.
Sort of like Oedipus is in our western tradition.
The top one is an older leader guy....hey! Super helpful eh?
:P

I would google my wonderbuns off, check out newsgroups, images, and even sites in japanese only.

good luck, btw, is there a stand? Looks like they belong in one!

I see epoweryourlife took my advice on the second pic-looks like his sword is stuck in his gut committing hari-kari. If you put a little ketchup on his sword you will definitely get more bids

They were on a piece of wood but the lady threw it away, said it went bad. These are from an estate. I found out they are Fushimi clay dolls. Japapnese Kabuki. Given to pilgrims in the 1600's. By the 1900's they were replaced by the prettier colors and cloth. So this would make them pre 1900's right? The dolls that are 11 inches are going for $350-2000. These guys are 3 inches tall. What would you start a bid at?
