So I do a search on "quilt set". I get 1308 hits. I see that 217 of these hits are in Home & Garden which I click on. It then shows 23,171 items found. What the...?????

And what's this with everyone wanting to be my friend? About every three or four days, I get some stupid canned email from someone I don't know wanting to be my Overstock.com friend. I understand that I can stop having these emails sent to me by going into my preferences, which I intend to do. But for what it's worth, I STILL don't understand the purpose of these emails.

You know, it's not like they're starting from scratch like eBay did. They had eBay as a model to improve on.

I'm greatly unimpressed.

i agree, you would think with Ebay as a model, they can do better, but i think the reasons why is that they do not know how it would tunr out,so why make it so elaborate??
The search is horrible, the canned emails has to do with some kind of beauty contest, the more friends and connection you have ,the bigger and better you are,i think you can find out more on their site,if you care to.

I'm not on Overstock but is there a way to search completed auctions?

Perhaps I don't understand about the friends....I think it's kind of silly because I would want bids and not be so concerned about being connected to other users as I've never bought into the 'community' aspect.

What if you are linked to one and that 'friend' goes bad and rips off people? Wouldn't that reflect on you? Would there be a way to boot them off your list?

I finally wrote them about the problems with their search function. They had the nerve to reply and brag about the "Features" of their search function.

The following is the email I sent them and their reply:

Subject: I just made a purchase from Amazon.com

Hi,
Just wanted to share some of my frustration with O-auctions! I buy and sell regularly on-line and have been really looking forward to using your auction site. However, your search function is so useless, that I have decided to go to stay with Ebay and Amazon.com for all of my shopping needs.
I know that I am not the only one turned off by this problem. I would LOVE to give O some, if not all, of my business. Please let me know when/if the search feature is ever fixed. I have attached specific issues below.

Sincerely,
Dianna Walsh

Example of problems:

1.Search for "bowling shoes", returns every pair of shoes on auction, returns every bowl listed for auction. Complaint: I am looking for bowling shoes, I do not want bowls, I do not want heels, I do not want to sift thru every auction on the site. If I did want to browse around the site, I would not be using the search function!

2. Once having entered a keyword search, category searches no longer function. User has to return to Auction Home to begin a new search. Complaint: What's up with that? Do you really think your users want to play seek and find with no way to filter out the things they do not want to see? And how many people just close the site instead of trying to figure out how to get back to a category search?

You have excellent standardized search examples, Ebay, Google. Learn from them!

Dear Dianna,

I am glad to see that you are so excited to get started with our new auction site! We'veve had an overwhelming response to Overstock Auctions, and we strive to make the auction experience the best it can possibly be. However, I apologize for any frustrations that you've been experiencing in using our new site.

We suggest you look around at some of the other sellers out there who may be selling what you like! Connect with people regularly, and you?ll increase the likelihood of locating the types of products and services you are searching for.

Should you have any further questions or concerns, please feel free to contact us anytime at 1-800-THE-BIG-O and select option three, or via email at [email protected].

Don't forget to visit our retail site for great savings on name-brand products!
