I just switched my payment method from my checking account to my PayPal debit card. A couple months back eBay took my payment earlier than I had anticipated and it caused me to bounce checks. Since then I've been making payments to eBay through PayPal a little at a time.

Last month my bill was some $60 but since I had made enough small payments I only owed $6 at the time of billing. Now this month my bill was $102 and I've now paid $106 of the fees so I'm clear for the month.

When it's time to charge my bill now for the next month and they charge my PayPal card (if I have a balance, I'm going to try and keep it down) it doens't go through my checking account (linked to PayPal) if it's supposed to just be PayPal. Does that make sense? If my bill is $46 and I only have $45 in my PayPal account, will it deny the charge or take $45 from PP and $1 from my checking?

I've never paid any other way aside from my checking account so this is new to me.

Hi Helga. Usually if you 'send' money with paypal if you dont have enough funds in your account to cover it, I think they go to your backup source of funding for the balance. Which in your case would be your checking account, right? So they might make a EFT to your bank for a dollar if that is the amount short of your PP funds that you are sending to ebay.

Okay that's what I'm trying to avoid. I'm going to do my best to keep my bill down so I won't have to worry about that but just in case.

Thanks.

if you are making the payment yourself with paypal, then paypal would take 45 from your paypal fund and 1 from your checking account.
But if Ebay is charging your paypal card as a credit card, paypal would notify you that you need to transfer more fund into your paypal account and it will tell you how soon you need to get it done.
May be someone else can confirm if this is the case, this is no different than you going to buy gas at gas station with your paypal debit card.

On my eBay invoice page it says my means of payment is "Credit Card". It's actually my PayPal debit card.

Stop is right. I had this happen once. PayPal will email you and tell you need to add money to your account.

I use my PayPal debit card a lot. For eBay fees and with some of my suppliers. If there is not enough in your account the charge is denied. I have never had them notify me about adding funds to cover it.

you are right Gtootie,
the only time paypal will ask you to add fund to your account when the charge is more than what you have in your account is -when the retailer such as gas station which authorise one dollar and the a few days later come in with the exact amount of the purchase.
