Is this a good thing or not? I know I don't seem to be busy after festivities. Doing the CRAZY shopping thing the morning after.

I've picked up on some incredible DEALS on auctions closing that day.

Lots of people travel. And then you'd have to guess what time they actually ate if they did stay at home.

IMHO I don't think I would end an auction on that day - or the day after.

I think Tuesday (maybe Wednesday) of that week through at least Saturday are off limits; maybe ending on Sunday is okay.

Some possibly significant number of people will be traveling to places like my in-laws, who don't have internet access. Hard to imagine, but it exists.

In years past, Thanksgiving has been a very good day to have auctions ending. This has been kind of the headstart to the busiest shopping day of the year.
Will it happen again this year. Hard to say. This year has been quite different and slow. Could be people are waiting until then to shop.

I'm vacationing. I'm getting out of this Alaska winter weather and heading to Florida for two weeks. I've ended all auction activity until the December push. Can't wait to get to the warm winter sunshine.

Thanksgiving is the one day of the year people bring out the fine china for dinner. It's also the day they're most likely to break a piece, or be reminded of missing pieces that need to be obtained. I plan to list a lot of china and dinnerware to end the Sunday night after Thanksgiving.

Wow sparkz that's really thinking.

I once sold one of those white furs stoles (rabbit) just before Halloween for some big bucks - I was really surprised until she wanted it over nighted. Guess she planned to be MM. I have a friend who buy cheerleader's uniforms all year and list them on Halloween - always does great. I guess if you just think like a consumer you can do well on ebay anytime of the year.

sparkz has the right idea. He & I both deal in china, so its a good time be a replacement seller. I never end an auction on Thursday as a rule.

Sanmar,
Since you end your auctions very late at night, you might want to experiment with a few this Thanksgiving. I'm seriously considering having a couple "late night shows" myself this Thanksgiving. Never can tell, turkey, stuffing and a bottle of fine wine may get a few people in the mood to bid. Not to mention some poor guy who broke his grandmother's covered butter dish while doing the dishes and is desperate to get it replaced before they tar and feather him

Last year, I had a flu bug and didn't make it out to my brother's in NJ for Thanksgiving.

Since I was stuck at home, I decided I might as well launch some auctions of my father's model railroading books, videos, and magazines.

I didn't close on Thanksgiving Day - I launched a round that evening.

I got really good page views and bids over Thanksgiving weekend, including another round I launched that Sunday.

So maybe you want to wait a week and launch on Thanksgiving.

I also had good luck with the week of New Year's last year. I did four of the shipbuilding kits from the 1940's, and they were hopping like mad with bids during the entire 7-day period.

The weeks or weekends of major holidays - that seems to be the time when a lot of people have more time to look at eBay, or at least, that's been my experience.

I think I will too. I'll just ask for what I want and hope for the best. Can't lose much and I can always relist
