REPORTING IN GLASSGRL
The outside is almost 100% completed. The pictures I am showing were taken a few weeks ago & I will take more recent pics tomorrow.
For the last two weeks almost nothing has been done because the person installing the heater & AC just started last week only worked two days! All the electrician wants him to do is mark where the heat returns will go so he can get started & then the insulation & walls would be next. He just won't do it & is holding everyone up. Why I don't know other than he says he will get to it when he can.
The contractor is the nicest most honest person you would ever want to meet. In the last few weeks he has taken well over 3000.00 off his estimate because he managed to find the hardwood floors we chose at a cheaper (on sale) price. Also I decided there were too many windows in my bedroom so he removed one & insisted on refunding the cost of the window. He said he is building a new garage & can use it there.
The siding we chose is Autumn Red, like a barn red & the house really looks nice sitting up on the hill in the woods. The pictures do not show the true color, it is a bit lighter. I wish I could take a picture of the entire place, but I can't because it is on a hill & the left of the house sits too far back to be in the picture. Some of these pictures were taken from the trailer we are living in on the lower level.
The picture of the house where you see some stone used to be the kitchen, now the dining room & they managed to be able to leave some of the stone, wish they could had of done that with the rest of the front of the house.
The two story part is the garage with a bedroom with bath over it. In the old house there was no bedroom over the garage.
My bedroom has a wonderful 5ft x 11ft closet
which I will have no trouble filling up!
The insurance co has been wonderful, something we never expected, they offered & we decided to settle with them for the rest of the claim to get the whole thing over & done with. We rejected their first offer, told them how much we wanted & they asked if we would settle for 10,000 less & we agreed.
We added 10,000 to what we thought we needed just in case & because of our builder being so honest there will be no unexpected extra charges, he has guaranteed that. In fact If I know him he will probably find a way refund even more money to us!
So in the end we will have a brand new house, heating & cooling system, furniture & everything else we lost plus money left over to put in the bank & whatever we get for the trailor we are living in.
The entire claim was a little over 350,000.

Thanks toast & Japerton & yes it has been a loooong wait, 14 & 1/2 months so far & that's one of the reasons we settled. The first appraiser was fired from the job for taking too long & his replacement was even worse, he never even returned my call to set up an appointment. The thought of starting over again was too much to even think about & the settlement was probably more than we would have gotten anyway which was enough to rebuild, replace everything & money to spare.
I got a lot of good ideas from glassgrl about what extras to put in the kitchen & I ordered everyone of them. I liked her ideas about lighting too. Along with hard wired smoke detectors we are putting in hard wired carbon monoxide detectors & that's because there is a bedroom over the garage.

McJane...You mean you actually park cars in garages back there? Out here in California, we use garages to protect $500.00 worth of junk and leave the $30,000 car parked in the driveway.

LOL sparkz
We have never did have the luxury of parking our car in the garage, everyone knows, even here in PA, a garage is for other stuff. But now with all the junk tossed out it's empty so we're going to try & hope it stays empty. (It won't last long though) Even installing a garage door opener, never had one, always wanted one.

THAT is all so awesome mcjane ... I'm glad to hear your rough road is finally smoothing out ... what an ordeal!
posted on November 15, 2004 03:31:36 AM new Gorgeous! It is sooooo pretty I'm envious! But you darn well deserve it after going through so much heartache.
I can't WAIT to see pictures of the kitchen! And the best part is....you don't sound depressed anymore.
AND all new furniture! Mind boggling! Have you started shopping yet or do you need me and ltray to come on up?

Terrific looking house! The windows and color give it so much class! After all that you have been through, it will surely be a relief when you are moved in and the trailer is sold.
(BTW, we have a 3 car garage and can't get even 1 car in there...hahaha)

Thank you everyone for your kind words & compliments.
Glad you like the color, it's different, but does look good because of where it is.
glassgrl, I feel much better because it won't be long now. The house looks finished, but the inside is just the studs. At least the wiring & plumbing is installed, but not hooked up to anything. We've switched to gas heat & most of that is completed.
I really haven't started shopping for furniture so I do need you & itray to come & do it for me. You two will love it here in December, nice & frosty, much better than that nasty warm sunny weather you have to put up with.
classic, you are so funny, are you sure your not jerry12
Not a good picture, but it shows the other side, which is it's best side.
