All my mother can remember about this doll is that an elderly woman gave it to her in the 1960s or 1970s. She is all cloth, has really long legs, real human hair and eyelashes and her face is hand painted. Any ideas as to age? 1920's? We'd like to have her restored and period clothing made for her, but need an idea as to what style would be appropriate. The use of makeup and red lips leads me to believe it's the 1920's, but I could be wrong. Any ideas? Personally, I find her a bit frightening in her current state. LOL!

Thanks, everyone.

HI your doll is called a boudoir doll... French bed doll. Check out the prices and descriptions in Schroeders. (Dolls)Some of them are $$$ serious $. I would say this one would be of interest to someone who has a need to dress a nice ole doll.

That's it!!
Bjboswell is correct. I have one very much like yours. Mine has a composition face and really heavy makeup. Mine has a strap in the back that was used for carrying her as these dolls were original carried by the owners (or so I read - really weird isn't it?)and when that fashion went out they were sent to the bedroom.
I am pretty sure you have the date correct.
Mine is naked too and doesn't have any hair and I can't decide if I should have her restored or sell as is? They really can bring some good money so it is hard to say?
LOL mine scares me too!!! I have to keep her in a bag!!

For once you and I agree! My mother is almost 70 and I'm trying to get her to sell some of her things. She still has her original Story Book dolls all in the boxes, her doll house furniture (every bit of it bakelite in some of the coolest colors), jadeite child's dishes and more childhood objects. I'd like her to sell some of it and use the money to have some fun.
