"We are very excited to announce Want It Now, a new way for members to buy and sell unique, hard-to-find items.
Have you been looking everywhere for that one collectible to complete your collection? Or maybe you need a missing hubcap for your car that you just can’t find?
With Want It Now, buyers can now tell sellers exactly what they are looking for when they are unable to find it on the site. Sellers can then browse through these requests to discover buyers for their items, as well as get new ideas for what items are in demand.
Buyers: Creating a Want It Now post
When buyers search for an item and receive a low number of results, they will be offered the option of creating a Want It Now post on the Want It Now specialty site. You can also go directly to the Want It Now specialty site from the homepage to create a post. To post to Want It Now, you must have at least 5 feedback or a credit card on file.
Want It Now posts are anonymous, and no identifying information will be displayed.
Sellers: Responding to a Want It Now post
Any member can browse Want It Now posts. If a Want It Now post matches a listing on the site that you know about, you can use the Respond function to alert the buyer. The buyer will receive an anonymous email instructing them how to view the item on the site.
Listing an Item that matches a Want It Now post
Sellers who discover a Want It Now post for an item that they have in stock but haven’t listed will be able to access the Sell Your Item form directly from the Want It Now post. Once the listing is complete, simply click on Respond to send the listing anonymously to the potential buyer. (Items listed via this method will be available to everyone, exactly like a regular listing on the site.)
Want It Now is a great new way to help buyers find what they want and to help sellers find the right buyers. For more information about Want It Now, please check out our tutorial and Frequently Asked Questions. To go directly to Want It Now, please click here.

Oh Joy, first thing I am going to list is "more paying customers". Think they will let me??!??

Just read this in "Auction Bytes" No charge to buyer or seller, just the usual fees for listing & sale. Hey, it can't hurt can it?

I think it is too open ended to really work. I see it being abused, we'll see. On half.com they have something like this, and you set in a price that you are willing to pay - Then, when people list, that pre-order price is available. The nice thing about that system is if you put in a pre-order request and someone has it and sells it, you own it!

I decided to give this a try. There is a Christmas ornament that I have been looking for for at least 3 or 4 years. I was very specific. The name of the ornament and who put it out. I even described it. It's a cowboy Santa riding a black and white cow.
Well, some seller started sending me responses to the ad. Every kind of Christmas ornament there is expect ones pertaining to cowboys, Santa or cows.
But there is one good thing to note. There is a little button on the e-mail that says "Report this item: If this item is inappropriate or unrelated to your Want It Now post, report it."
Be kind. Everyone is fighting their own secret battles.

I used it last night - went in to see what it was all about and found someone looking for a postcard I had in my store. I gave the item # and she purchased bright and early this am. She had spelled the name of the hotel wrong is probably why she couldn't find in search

I just took a look at Want It Now. I have a hunch that, fairly soon, Ebay will need to use subcategories--and then maybe have an option to list the items wanted in alphabetical order.
Let's say I have 400 books to sell. I am not going to take the time to search through all the wanted books, searching with each book I have, one at a time, to see if someone wants my book, right?
As it stands now, if we have a room full of ebay stuff to sell, it'll have to be serendipity if we happen to spot an item we have in the wanted list. But. . . I think it's great that it's working for some people!

no wonder there are so many unhappy marriages and divorces out there!
not to mention wife beaters and child molesters and serial killers!

Tootie: I do know that the search function is available there, but imagine having 400 books to sell and laboriously searching the book site there to see if anyone wants each one of them. It isn't going to happen for me.
I'm sure, though, that if you had an unusual item, it would be worth the search. I'm just saying it won't be worth my time--at least for now.
