I have an 85 year old close dear friend who is suffering from arthitis. She loves her fresh orange juice. She has a hard time using a reamer. The way she currently gets juice out of an orange is to cut in in half, put it in a layer of 6 plastic bags and then steps on it. Then pours the juice into a cup. Last night she decribed a mechanical gaget that she used to have to squeeze the fruit. I found one online. I guess another bidder and I are having a bidding war. The price is up to 40 bucks now. He just sent me an email saying that he doesn't want the price to go up any higher but is willing to bid upto 200 bucks to get it.

Whatcha all think? All I am trying to do is to give this little lady something back. She has been my neighbor and has known me since I was very little. I haven't seen any others out there. Any ideas?

show me. there are some that are pretty common that you squeeze with. i may have one laying around, I used to collect things like that but I'm getting rid of it and they don't bring anything on Ebay so I put them in the garage sale pile.

Would a newer manual juicer like this one be as easy to use for her?

I think the one you are bidding on is just too appealing to the retro collectors.

There are many specialty appliances made for those with severe arthritis. I don't have a link for you, but a Google search ought to turn up something very easily.

My grandmother had a jar opener and several other really neat gadgets. These are the kind of things you'd never think would exist until you found someone who needed them.

Sounds like a niche market. Hmmmmmm.....

I have seen several small electric juicers at yard sales in this area. These are the type made especially for citrus. They're quite popular because so many people around here have orange, grapefruit or lemon trees in their back yards.

yeah, I had (have?) one like the SmartBargin one. Only thing is - we're out of town so I don't know if we still have it or not.

darnit, and I had one of these and let it go at the last yard sale! http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=29809&item=6137446717&rd=1

that one is really cool.

I'll look when I get home Wed if you want me to. And you can have it if I still have one.

something like this one works better though than the one I have. It is all about the lever(age). http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=20677&item=4342905279&rd=1 [ edited by glassgrl on Dec 12, 2004 01:05 PM ]

Thanks so much. I'll let her know what is happening. She does so much for so many people and never asks anything in return. Such a wonderful woman. Too bad she never had any kids.

paloma91-first of all why are you in a bidding war?? why didnt you just snipe it at the end??
Second of all this dude has some b*lls emailing you in the first place to tell you that.
Even if you arent going to bid on it, I would email him back and say you REALLY have to have this and you are going to snipe it at the end for $400.00 and let the jackass sweat it out.
Then tell him to eat sh*t and bark at the moon.

Thanks Classic, I thought of emailing him that too. I don't usually bid on things and I have NEVER received an email like that before. What a rude jerk. Oh well, the world's full of 'em on the buying AND selling side.

There are wonderful electric juicers out. You just cut the orange in half and hold it on the reamer thing as it rotates. Much less expensive than $200, too! MUCH less.
