My parents just began to sell on eBay. They are selling an item that is really "hot" right now and when that dies down my mom will be selling her handmade quilts and such.

They've done well so far but my dad is so furious with the feedback thing, that people don't leave feedback when they get their item. I told him some people do it different, everyone has their system. I don't leave feedback until I receive it. I told him maybe because he's new he should do the opposite.

Anyhow last night he got an email from someone who purchased one of the hot items and although the item is exactly like the description (I know, I wrote it) they said they were disappointed becuase it wasn't what they thought. They wanted their $60 back. My dad immediately sent an email saying no problem, send it back, etc. When he told me what happened I looked into her auctions and found that she sells as well and in her own auctions states NO REFUNDS OR RETURNS FOR ANY REASON.

Now how is that for gall to ask for a refund when you won't do them on your own?

My dad told me I make things look easy. I laughed at him. I've been on ebay for years, it's not easy, I dont make much money from it. I told him to start reading boards, eBay boards and learn from those.

Helen,
Don't let this person/seller try to bully your dad. You should have your dad copy & paste her refund policy and return an email to her with the message, "In light of new current information, there will be no refund" So what is the worse that could she do give him a negative? we all know that a negative is meaningless these days. Besides he can start a new user ID if he can access to another email address. She sounds like she should have a kick in the pants for her double standard antics.

Helga

Have your parents include a return policy in their TOS if they haven't already. I refund on a case by case basis. In this case, I would not have refunded. It's a lesson to them - read the description carefully - think before you hit the Bid Now button.

As for feedback, if they leave it. . .swell, I'll leave it for them. If not. . .swell, too, because I don't have to leave any either.

Who cares if it's a double standard.

What is _his_ policy on returns?

That's the kernel of the issue.

He is new to selling and didn't really think of having one.

I've been on eBay for years and I dont really have a return policy. I've only ever had one person want to return something and it was a special situation so I did it.

This was not the case.

He said he wanted to write in his auctions now that there are no returns because he's not Walmart

Unless you cover it, you are wide open.
You can call a person on their ethics, but Walmart sells Chinese Crapola Imports and yet calls themselves All American.

Good luck!
