If you ship internationally, particularly to Canada and the UK - what type of payment do you accept??
What do you do about insurance?
When at one time we did ship internationally, we had a terrible time with foreign charge cards - but worse, customers claiming they didn't receive their package, and without insurance and or a signed receipt, then we were wide open for credit card charge backs.
We quit shipping internationally for a number of years, but have gotten more and more requests for items to be shipped to Canada and the UK.
I checked the on line U.S.P.S. services/charges to Canada and the UK, and find no insurance, or return receipt available, so no protection for the seller.
What do you do? Please don't tell me about U-Pic I used them for 2 years and was very displeased with their operation.
I'd like to use UPS, which is how we ship everything else, but the rates are extremely high.

The same blue USPS insurance slip is used for intl packages as well, and is trackable by USPS staff.
Registered /certified mail require signature and you can pay extra to get signature card sent back to you.
But all these are not bulletproof when it comes to chargeback-if a fraudulent card is used or the customer claims someone signed for it etc etc.
Sanmar uses a different private insurer than U-PIC,may be you can look into it.
U-PIC is rather disorganised.

I ship via USPS to Canada and U.K. all the time and have never had any problems.
To insure, you have to use Air Mail Parcel Post or Surface Mail Parcel Post which costs more than Letter Post Air....for the life of me, can't figure out why, if you are sending say a 2 lb. box, it goes under Letter Post Air. Seems they should rename that option.

Ditto on DSI
No Paypal - bidpay only or postal money order.
This works for me - but if it's not an expense item - I don't worry about it too much. But I do get a certificate of mailing if they don't opt for the insure.

I accept Paypal just because it is by far the most convienient. I insure thru DSI as of a month ago but I have not had any problems with lost packages in months.

If it's really "common" sense, why do so few people actually have it?

Thanks again to everyone for your input - We got burned so bad in the past, I'm checking out every little thing right now before I step back in.
I wonder why what you are saying and what the U.S.P.S. web site says doesn't match, but I'll check it again.
I had an overnight payment I needed to send to Italy to one of my suppliers a few weeks back, and the USPS could hardly comprehend how to handle it, as their computer system said one thing, and their latest manual said something else!!!
Thanks again.
