To transfer my 4000+ listings to another image hosting/sales manager provider? Is there some painless way to get the "meat" of the description (without all the embedded Vendio template HTML etc) and the images exported to another provider with no "down" time if the need arises?

... lets see been with them since 99 , pay annnually for unlimited hosting, launch all my auction on this ID with VD -- real smooth UNTIL RECENTLY - couple weeks after right after I paid 2004 annual payment WHAM - NO unlimited hosting~ have a PROBLEM , IT WILL COST TO TALK TO THEM, they charge for CS calls, never called them EVER, certainly will not since they started charging. This "Intermittent" is very
disturbing ... VERY disturbing~
of course it will be back on course shortly -- but PLEASE that word "Intermittent" drives me wild ..just post it like it is:
--- we have a problem with the system are clueless to why - we havn't the foggiest ideal when we will figure a cure for this mess, we understand you are losing bucks and know patience is not
to be expected. We hope you will try to control your rage , thanks
.... now that would be an acceptable announcement-words like Intermittent and asking for patience just don't get it. Of course this is just my take. I realize all the other VDs may be patient and politely shaking their heads at my discontent .

Neglus - MarketWorks will allow you to import all of your active auctions and I believe store listings as well into their system. You will have to upload the photos into their system manually and "reconnect" the pics to the inventory items manually which may take awhile but their system is more reliable, they have a one price covers all program, customer service assistance is FREE, plus they have the oh so amazing reporting features. Oh yeah - their images are mirror hosted on a seperate server so even when their service has been unavailable all of your images are still in your auctions.

If it's really "common" sense, why do so few people actually have it?
I an not sure what you use to create listings. If you use Sales Manager Pro and create them locally on your PC its very easy. Just import the data (description, Quantity, shipping info, scan etc using your spreadsheet (I use Excel) to Andale or any other provider that has import capablity. If they were created through Sales Manager it will not be easy since the scans are tied to Vendio, but there may be a way with some auction software providers. Good Luck

Neglus, I think you and I had a very similar conversation by email a couple week ago. This was the VERY REASON I didn't go with Vendio. They make it easy to get your stuff IN, but don't give you a way to get it back OUT.
MarketWorks lets you enter inventory online, through Excel, Access, Turbo List, SAPro, and CSV files. You can also export your data with many options.
As Fenix said, you CAN IMPORT your auctions into MW, but it will still have all the VD template stuff in it. Why don't you contact the MW support guys and see if they can "filter" that stuff out for you. It's not easy for a non-programmer, but they've always been VERY helpful with me. It's not gonna hurt to ASK.
Of course MW isn't free either, and depending on your volume might even be higher priced. But as fenix said, they are excellent.
