Not only has someone stole my password, they have stolen ny old email address & seller ID (sanmar) & sold me a gizmo for $38.75. However I was lucky enough to have changed my PayPal email address so they couldn't get paid. There won't be anymore sanmar on ebay. I have already posted a new ID & password. I have set up completely new site with new address, password & ID.

I think I have everything under control. I haven't put up an auction for 20 days so everything has been cleared from my old account. Really a bunch of crap to go through after 7 good years.

Log onto Housecall at Trendmicro.com and scan your hard drive. You could very well have a keystroke recording trojan that slipped by your AV program. Housecall is an excellent program for double checking on Norton and McAfee.

Hi Sanmar!
Sorry to hear about this identity theft. It is a definite problem of our times & going to get worse. So will you be posting your new ebay user name?

Sparkz!
Please tell us more about trendmicro.com. I haven't heard of them & when I went to their site, their privacy page seems to indicate that they track information about you. How do you know they are safe?

TREND MICRO is like the 3rd or 4th largest AV software companies in the WORLD, based in: TOKYO...

I've used both their PC based SW (PC-Cillin) & the ONLINE "HOUSE-CALL" happily for years & trust them 100%

Local..
Trendmicro's Housecall program is a free AV scan and kill program. I use it on my seldom used backup computers in conjunction with AVG. It scans your computer remotely with an up to date AV program. They make a point of explaining during the scan that it is only good to detect a virus on your computer after the fact, and that it does not reside there permanently to protect against infection. At this point, they make the sales pitch for their PC based program, PC-cillin, for 24 hr protection. Their strategy is that if Housecall detects and removes a virus, you will be impressed enough to purchase PC-cillin. I've used it many times to verify McAfee's results, and it has never loaded a spyware program or tracking cookie on my computer. The first time you use it, it will take a while because it downloads a large definition file onto your computer, but subsequent scans will be much faster.

can you say "hijackthis"?

this is one of those times that it comes in handy.

Sanmar, housecall / trendmicro is good. If you want to run Hijackthis - here's the url.

http://www.spywareinfo.com/~merijn/

for a quick peek at what's pretty much ok and what's not, you can copy and paste your log file into here....

http://www.hijackthis.de/index.php

it will bring up something's that are NOT GOOD and somethings that are suspect. You will just have to know your system. Last time I ran it on my daughter in laws computer it didn't like her AIM and a couple of other things that I did not want to take off because I knew she used them.

DO make a backup with HJT before you have it fix anything in case you need to restore it.

Feel free to ask if you have any questions....
