I've listed way well over 100 auctions tonight ~ I started at almost 5 p.m. I still have 2 hours left to list but I physically don't think I can list another auction! I'm burned out, my computer is dragging (I run that Adaware every day and I still think I'm missing something because dang it's slow) and I dont want to look at another eBay page tonight.

I still have so much to list but there is no way I can get it all done and there is no way I can do another batch like I just did tonight.

Anyone else burned out and ready to turn in??

I really wish I had had all day to do this and not just a part of a day. I would have gotten so much more done.

Helga- I know very little about computers, but when mine was dragging to the point of me wanting to throw it out the window, the I.T. guy at my office told me to do 3 things: 1.If you are running XP, install Service Pack 2 (You can go to control panel then system properties to see if you are running 1 or 2) 2. Install and run Adaware 3. Install and run Spybot. You may have to inquire where to get Spybot & Service Pack 2 (he gave it to me on a disk),but all I know is that my computer was 100% better after I did those 3 things. Kevin

I can finally stop. I have been functioning on about 4 hours of sleep.

But...I got 1051 auctions listed/re-listed. Yahoo!

Ewora, just wondering how you will handle over 1000 auctions? The most I ever had running was 50 in one week, and I was going crazy trying to get them all packed and shipped as the payments came in. Can't imagine handling 1000 or even 500.

I guess it depends what you're selling and how may people you have working with you (or maybe even a small business with a full time staff). Not sure of your background, although I've been on eBay for over four years, I'm new to Vendio and this message board, so I don't know the members that well yet.

Tomwii, yeah I know powerwebmedia is a long name, but I'm starting to do freelance web design and I'm incorporating under that name and have that as a domain name (although I havn't made my own website yet!). I'd have preferred a shorter name, but all the good ones are taken. It's easier if I capitailize the letters: PowerwebMedia, or in real life, it's Powerweb Media (my license plate says "POWERWEB" - the maximum amount of letters I could have).

But anyways, how do you folks handle large amounts of auctions? By yourself or with the help of others?

power welcome! I am a single seller just lil ole me. I listed 102 brand new auctions yesterday PAT ON MY BACK! It took some time in prep work as I am an Antique dealer and each of my descriptions is different. I wish (and I may still) I was a drop ship lister with 1000 toasters or what ever... but at the moment its a job every day hours at the screen. typing searching ebay for what is hot that I have... this is a job... The 102 is the most I have ever had at one time 50 before this so this will be interesting next Monday night should be fun!I told my daughter that if she went to college Mommy would pay the bill... and I will! I pray she will never do anything on ebay (or shows) save shop! POWER again welcome to Vendio ....have a good week all. Mine has started out well I'm pleased with my bids taken so far. Tom glad to see Ralph is back from his holiday!

Thanks bjboswell. I've got 25 auctions on right now, 10 ending tonight, 10 on Thursday night and 5 on Sunday afternoon. Just trying to see which days & times are better this time of year. When I was an eBay regular I'd try t list about 10 items a week on average.

At the moment this is just for some extra pocket change and to build up a feedback rating for a seldom used account that I eventually want to have for web design related things. I'll go back to my other account later and keep it just for automotive items.

My plan is to do eBay part time but on a continuing basis to supplement my freelance web designing. But who knows, maybe eBay will become more profitable and I'll do that full time instead. Whatever pays the bills, I enjoy either one so I'll be happy!

::my freelance web designing::

So how long have you had these masochistic tendencies? I used to do web and print design work but finally had to move away from it because I had an overwhelming urge to strangle too many of my clients.

Most of them were great but every so often you get the one that doesn't have a clue what they want. You send them home, tell them to search them the web and find 5 sites that they really like and 5 that they really hate and tell you why and they come back with 5 PRODUCTS that they like and 5 that they hate and they all have basically the same website. You resist the urge to nail them in the back of the head with a stapler on their way out the door and follow your own vision. Client comes back, sees your vision and declares... "That's not what I was thinking." OK... now we are getting somewhere.... What WERE you thinking? "I don't know... but not that." (Where is that damn stapler when you need it?!?!) After about two more of these little ventures into hell they return telling you that they aren't sure about this web thing afterall...it's probably just a fad. They didn't realize how much work it would take. This time you know exactly where the stapler is and you staple your bill to their forehead knowing full well it will never get paid but DAMN! that felt good.

Oh yeah - these incredibly indecisive vision challenged nightmares are inevitably reccomended by your dream client. The one that came in with all text on a disc in raw text format, had all of their images ready, and showed you three sites that they loved and knew exactly why they were attracted to them and it had nothing to do with the picture of the buxom blond in the corner.

Best of luck in your new venture.... want some referrrals

Fenix03, yes I'm aware there will be some challenging people do deal with, but I'm used to it, and I'm quite patient (so I've been told). I've been looking for something that I can do while still living locally, as my parents are quite elderly and not in good health. I wanted to be closer to the them to help when needed.

My plans are to start from home and by the end of 2005 be in a commercial location, and I've already found the perfect office building that has vacancies every few months so that souldn't be a problem. I've got a contingency plan to fall back on, and I could always work eBay full time during the slow times of web design.

I really want to stick with web design as I can see there's some good money in it. I don't think there's any business that's free from stress or frustrating clients. I'm not sure what will work better, getting local clients, or solicit those from anywhere in the world, via my website and/or auctioning my services on eBay. In any case, I'm sure once I get past the trial & error experiements I'll know what works well for me and what doesn't.

Thanks for sharing your experiences, it's always good to hear comments about the good, the bad and the ugly, not just the good. It still hasn't discouraged me (you might want to ask me that in about a year though)!

Powerweb - if you want to venture out try registering on eLance. Basically, people or companies that need services advertise their project on there and different providers bid on the project. Your biggest competition is going to be from companies in India and they are going to outbid you every time but what will help you win the actual bids is a good online portfolio (at first you can create sites for fake companies so that you have a variety of designs and interfaces to show) and an emphasis that you are a US based company offering both email and phone support. You are going to place a lot of bids, especially at first when you have no rating, but eventually you should be able to snag something and the more work you do, the more work you get.

Yeah...1051 is a lot more then I am used to however, 400-500 is not unusual.

Everything is prepackaged and weighed and filed by number in boxes. The item number co-incides with my picture number on each auction so I just right click the picture, pull the item and print the postage. Quick and easy.

You should have seen what a mess it was before I got serious about organization.

Wow lots of interesting input!

First, I used to always list just on Sundays (maybe becuase that what I did first and it worked well at the time). I've been pleasantly surprised at the luck I've had listing on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Hadn't thought of Fridays, I figured most people are busy then. Oh well, live and learn!

Fenix, I quickly checked out eLance, thanks, looks great. I'll definatly read more of it, I've bookmarked that website. And yes, I'll definately have email and phone support with an 800 number, now that I know how affordable it is to have that.

As for handling large amounts of auctions, I too found a big difference once I got organized. I put packing materials, boxes, merchandise, etc all in a specific place and even pre-packaged as much as I could. Still, more than 25 auctions a week for me (at the time anyways) was the most I could do due to other commitments.
