I was given a set of 4 matching OLD (circa 1940 - 50's) danish chairs. I didnt want to put them on ebay because they are going to be a bear to ship. HOWEVER, I did see an auction for similiar chairs that offered a listing of various a furniture moving services that the winner could contact for shipping prices. Maybe that's the way to go. I listed them for 60 bucks on craigslist about an hour ago and have had a few emails in that short amount of time. Maybe my price is too low and maybe I really need to list them on ebay. Here's a foto
Any thoughts?

Hi paloma91...
Raise your price on Craigslist - it's on the low side. Those Danish modern chairs are collectible and worth at least $150. I'd put up them up on eBay.

Helga, where do you live? If you were anywhere near me (Southern Calif.) I'd buy them in a minute. They are very very unusual for Danish furniture, almost with an arts and crafts feel to them although I know they aren't that. They'd be perfect for someone's cabin or cottage, too. Raise your prices, m'dear. ~Adele

Raide it to what? $150 each or for all 4? Is it worth researching furniture moving companies and list 'em on ebay?
Oh, I just thought of a MAJOR DUH! Why don't I just look on the bottom of one of the chairs to find a MFG mark! Why wasn't I thinking! I do that for all my smalls! all together now - Paloma, MAAAAJOR DUUUUUH!

I was just looking online to see how much shipping would be for a hot tub from CA. They said they would ship it FedEx freight????
Anyway - I see Forward Air has terrific prices on shipping large items but they don't have home delivery - just to a freight station.

Don't ship by a moving company. They all have a 1000 pound minimum weight and the cost would be prohibitive. Wrap them very good in paper furniture pads after you take your auction photos. One will nest upside down in the other. They can then be placed in a cut down wardrobe carton or a carton that a portable dishwasher came in. Get the weight and measurements of each box, and see if they are under the size limit for FedEx Ground. If so, go with them. Otherwise, plan on Greyhound.

Did you find a manufactures label and if so what was it. I know by going to antique store that Danish furniture is highly collectible. Also new danish furniture is high priced. I have a friend sho has nothing but danish furniture (new) and it wasn't cheap.
Good Luck

Put them at $150 for all 4 chairs. They look like
they could be "Plycraft" chairs from the 1950's.

Nothing on the bottom of the chairs. I'll ask the neice that has the matching table. Maybe there is a mark underneath the table
(pause)
I had to take down the ad, I was getting inundated with emails. GEEZ, I'd better do more research before I sell these things.

Are they teak?? Pray they are teak. Do a search for Danish Modern teak on ebay and you will be listing them there for sure. You may even be stealing the matching table!!!! Other woods are good too but teak seems to do best.
They do have a Arts & Crafts look too. Very nice
Be sure to photograph them on a lite background if you can. They would be great with black leather seats (sorry I don't like the print either) and you may find it worth it to have them covered.

Oh yeah - these chair would be easy to ship. As Sparkz said - two to a box - shipped FedEx ground and it won't be bad at all. Get a good strong box even if you have to order them from UPS-that is part of the handling fee. Try to get the best fit you can and use 3 boxes (cut one in half and use it for lids) I have done this a couple of times and it worked great.
Good luck

Roadsmith - did you catch that it is Paloma and not Helga selling these? She is in Northern California.

Thanks, Neglus, for reminding me it's Paloma, not Helga with these chairs. I think that even Northern California is too far for me to travel for them, but they are truly terrific!

Paloma: Are you absolutely sure the seat coverings on those chairs are the original ones? I've never seen Danish modern furniture with that sort of flower pattern. Now I'm wondering if they are really Danish or some cottage-type furniture.

yes, they are the original seat covers on the chairs. maybe they were made locally. The wood is teak. I asked about the markings. The only marking was a hang tag on the table that said "Bob Vowel furniture San Mateo. (San mateo is right next door to the city I live in) I am sure it has since gone out of business since the set: chairs and table where purchased new in the late 1940s - early 50's
No other marks on any of the chairs or table. Interesting and perplexing
