As I mentioned before we are moving. Today we are cleaning out the attic and found box after box of glass dishes that were won at a coin toss at a carnival wrapped in newspaper from 1952! Can I call it carnival glass or does it have another name? Some are green (large bowl with lots of bumps and little matching bowls with 3 tiny feet), some are red, and some is that yellow/gold irredecent that now has the carnival glass label.

There are some clear glass items too. Could they fall under the same label? I know one creamer and sugar bowl is clear anchor hocking, cuase I have one just like it in milk glass listed. But the others are just the sugar bowl alone.

Remember the old cheese glasses, found 18 of them too!

There is going to be a listing frenzy, around here, before 2/18!!!

I would still call it carnival glass. However, I wouldn't date it at 1952, unless you mention the newspaper. It may have been displayed for years before being relegated to the attic.

herbsandcrafts - you mean swanky swiggs cheese glasses by kraft. Do they have those neat designs? Tulips, dots, some have dogs, children.

I don't have a 30's,40's, 50's kitchen book but why not post a picture of your bowls with bumps just in case they have a name. You might get a better price. Do you think they are berry bowl sets?

Yes - Spikey flowers, flower garlands, & clear with different design bottoms,

<<Do you think they are berry bowl sets?>>

That may be exactly what they are. They were all won individually. Picture will come tomorrow after they get the 50 years of grime washed off.

And they still have the stickers attached and knowing my Mother they were never used or displayed.

Thanks, Louise

I imagine it was hard to unpack them. Is your mother still alive?

I can remember drinking our homemade tomato juice out of those glasses.

The other bowls I have only seen.

When are you moving? That will be a great change from where you live now. I wish you good luck.

No she passed almost 4 years ago.

The long answer is that they moved into the house on Pearl Harbor Day 12/6 & 7/1941. My Dad passed in 1992 and since my mom never drove and had arthritis pretty bad, we told her we could come and help her when she needed us. I had moved to NM in 1966 and we had a Natural Healing and Herb Store. Gene is medically retired, so it was easy for us to move back to NY. She finally called in the late summer of 2000 and said she couldn't do it alone anymore. We got here 3/2001.

May 27 she was half way up the stairs, going to bed and froze. The ambulance came and she spent a week in the hospital, mostly in bed with a minor heart problem. She stiffened up, and they said she had to go to rehab, and that they needed to take her off the coumidin so she could have therapy.

They did the therapy with her 1 hour every day and the other 11+ hours she sat in a wheelchair. On June 28, a blood clot broke loose and she died instantly - 3 1/2 months after we got here. We wonder what kind of premonition she had!

We hope to be gone by June and just listed the house on Thursday. They tell us, that in NY, it take 3 months to close. They have been showing and previewing it since.

This storm is a blessing. We are up to the 20 - 24 inches they predicted with some pretty good drifts in the yard. It is going to be fun trying to open the storm doors with the snow piled against them.

We have needed to do the attic and couldn't make the mess we needed to make with them all traipsing through. To give you an idea what we are facing. One rainy Sat. in the early 50's, my sister and I went into the attic with my Dad's new tool - a staple gun. My Mom had saved all our shoes so we stapled them by the laces to the rafters. They are still there. (Think they are sale able on eBay?? - to keep this legal)

Besides my son and new grandson in Colorado Gene has 2 kids and 2 grandchildren in New Mexico besides 2 brothers and lots of cousins scattered between Albuquerque and Denver. We've given NY a chance. We are only 35 minutes by train form the city and have been to plays, the taping of several TV shows, done the sightseeing in the city etc. but it is time to go. We hope to be gone by June before the humidity really starts. Gene has 5 herniated discs and a knee replacement, that never healed properly. The humidity really hurts him. When we were out there for the 2 months this summer, he felt great because it is so dry.

Gotta get to work. Cellar is next. 4 huge closets and piles of boxes and bags. So far we have 35% garbage; 30% yard sale; 15% we are keeping and 20% eBay. That is going to be one heck of a yard sale. Wish Jack was nearby to help, since he loves those things!!!! Thinking of putting some light stuff together to make a wholesale lot to sell on eBay. I bet we found enough Christmas lights (the huge outside ones; the medium inside/outside ones and the tiny ones) to go at least 1/2 mile.
