I'm not sure what you're trying to say here. Are you trying to figure out how to compute the cost of international mailings???? It gets tricky when it comes to having to measure the package. That's usually what trips me up. Until a postal clerk actually showed me how to measure a box the way they do, I came up short on my quotes quite a lot.

If you send surface, it's going to take a LONG, LONG time to get there (months even). It goes by boat (if overseas). I never use that option.

Thanks Ralpie. Actually the calculter does not have te priority mail rates on line and those of us who have been doing it so long can at LEAST estimate shipping with this. It also avoids my LONG trip to the PO because I get as much ready here as I an. I don't know.

Try this please. Go to the USPS site, ship to Canada a 5 pound envelope.... When I do this, I don't get air or surface options.... I'm wondering what happened to them. Clearly by my original message (OMG) I was tired and not thinking or writing correctly..... But do me a fav and try that. I don't get the air or surface options and I can't figure out why... unless.... are we not allowed to mail a 5 pound "envelope"? I mean this is like how if you looked up envelopes previously, it would NOT give you media / book rates. You HAD to say it was a package.

Interesting and SIMILARLY.... if I punch in a 5 pound package, voila... I get the surface and air rates, which I think kinda sucks! ha! Thanks ya'll for your fun comments and trying to help...

Yer right!

That's because the PO donna want you to use the "cheapo" rates anymore!

They still exist, but are HIDDEN!

You have to click on the link marked: "COMPLETE RATE CHART & RESTRICTIONS"

http://pe.usps.gov/text/imm/immicl/immiclcd_003.html

and then ya get to figure the rates out yerself useing the CHARTS!

Pretty sneaky, USPS!

This is whacked. Now another question, as I scrolled through what you sent, I see media/book rates down further.... for Canada? I didn't know we could use book / media rates for out of the US!!!!!!!!!

They drive me insane!!!!!!!!!!! (USPS that is...)

I also wonder, if we have an envelope, can't we use the calculator if we use the proper weight of the package? It's probably the same? I am wondering but will have to investigate that. ARGH. Sneaky is an understatment. I'm sick of the USPS and their games. Sick of going to different POs and the staff doesn't know the rules, etc.... It's VERY frustrating.
Thanks to everyone though!

ENVELOPE and BOX mean the same thing when yer talking Airmail LETTER Post -- the USPS used to have a "bookrate/media mail rate" which was changed to "LETTER POST" about 3 yrs ago...

WHAT are you trying to mail?
WEIGHT???
PACKAGING???

List as above, & I'll se if Ralphie will put down his CHEWIE & lend a hand with his extensive international shipping experience!

OK Ralphie...

It's a lot of 27 sewing patterns. THey can go in an envelope or box, obviously box would weigh more. AND THEN, I wanted to compare the rates to Global because sometimes it's cheaper to use two globals than it is to send via air. They are about 3-4 pounds by themselves. I finally figured based on 5 pounds 17.25 by air and the 7/each for global envelopes. I'm also figuring that you can't put more than 4 pounds in the globals too.

ARGH! I've been shipping internationally for a while myself but this is nuts. It gets worse all the time!

ship to Canada a 5 pound envelope

That is your problem. You cannot do 5 pounds in an envelope. Click the box link and all the info is there. Also, 5 pounds does not qualify for letter post. 4 pounds is the limit.
