With the posted giant increase in the cost of a basic eBay store, what are you going to do about your store? Pay almost double or close it?

My husband and I were just talking about the major increase in the eBay Basic Store fees, the fact is, we can put up one or more standard web sites for the price of the increased eBay Basic Store. Since we have been running web sites for about 6 years, we know how to draw business, and get good placement on the search engines, and it seems more logical to do this than pay eBay almost double for our basic store there.
We have web sites originating with 2 different hosts; I use one “cheapy” which is attached to our centralized cart system. FATCOW is cheap, reliable, and has a cart system if you don’t have your own system (which we do).. It costs less than the basic eBay store does now.
I think we will be closing our eBay store.

This has been discussed a lot in the last week or so. Many here have closed their stores already.

It seems these large fee increases will hurt the small to medium level seller the most. Too bad they can't be organized to boycott eBay, but after years on eBay I know getting a boycott together is impossible.

Hell, I just opened one up! Now I don't know what I'm going to do, because the second day, I had sales from it..
I am probably one of the few who have stopped posting. I was upset when they went with a .10 day vs a Free Day (my last listings). I averaged about 250-350 items/week last year. I will stop until at least April. I realize that my personal boycott won't affect eBay. But, it makes me happy and is my own little way of delivering my message.

Thought you might find Meg's comments to Goldman sachs about price increases interesting: (got this from the PESA discussion board):
"MEG WHITMAN: Sure. It was a relatively small price increase on Buy It Now. It was
designed to sort of balance out the marketplace. Actually, interestingly enough, the most
amount of feedback we've heard from our user community is not around the Buy It Now
price. It is actually around the store's final value. So as I read my in-box and look at our
message boards, the users understand the Buy It Now price and it promotes more
aggressive fixed prices.
The stores, interestingly enough, a year ago we reduced store listing fees from 5 cents to
2 cents, store inventory went way up and we had the same final value fee we have at
stores as the rest of sites. And as you know, we've seen tremendous growth in stores
listings. So what we decided to do this year was keep the listing fee at 2 cents and take
up the final value fees slightly, because the stores is a slightly different model. Around a
lot of inventory that sits there for a while and when it does sell we want to make sure that
we capture that share of the market and it also makes people think hard about () what
they want to have in auction versus what they want to have in stores. And we thought
that was an important thinging to make user evaluate. What is the best channel for them,
stores or the listings ings in the main part of the site.
