I want to bid on an item that is being offered on ebay in a live auction. This does not appear to be an auction that allows live bidding (I haven’t seen one of these in a while). They accept absentee bids through ebay.

My question is, will the auction house receive my maximum bid and then bid on my behalf or will ebay’s proxy server bid for me in real time, thus keeping my maximum bid a secret from the auction house.

This is a small house I never heard of and I have heard too many stories about unscrupulous auctioneers who start the bidding at the highest absentee bid.

eBay’s proxy server will bid for you in real time (your actual bid will be secret)
