I just looked at my auctions in Sales Manager and one of my items has 4,000 hits and only 1 bid. Do you think, I am hoping, that there might be some sniping?

Any watchers? The item was problably related to one of the Treasure Hunt clues and received most of its hits in a 10-minute period.

Let me guess. You found the other breast implant for Tawney Peaks and listed it?

Sounds like you made the whowouldbuythat or distrubingauctions list.
What are you selling? Could also be something closely related to something on the eBay pulse page.
Whatever the reason, if it were me, I would definitely figure out what I had done right and do it again! even if they are looking and not buying, they may look at your other items while they are there and buy something else.

I think I listed it in a wrong category, but it is related to the category I put it in. I doubt if I will get any more bids as there is more in the other category. I would list it here but since I post in the RT I hate to show my seller ID. I hope you understand.

"I would list it here but since I post in the RT I hate to show my seller ID. I hope you understand."
Now what could be your inference in that comment...that someone in the RT would interfere with your auction? What nonsense!

Helen,
Libra has been around since the bad old days.
It wasn't uncommon for it to happen. Don't know about now, but I don't blame Libra for not wanting to show it.
I thought the old days were rough, but the current RT makes the old posters look like pussycats.

That was totally uncalled for Helenjw. What does it matter what my selling ID is. It is no bodies business but mine. Will you tell us yours?
Thanks toollady I appreciate your comment.

Toollady,
As I pointed out a couple of days ago when this issue came up...The Round Table and Ebay Outlook are enjoyed by the same group of people essentially. With few exceptions posters go back and forth between boards because nearly all are interested in auction related news. So the implication that some bad apples are unique to the Round Table is simply not a reasonable assumption. I certainly don't object to Libra's decision to keep her auction information private. But I think that it's wrong to infer that the Round Table is populated by people who might interfere with someone's auction. I don't believe that this is true of the Round Table or of Ebay Outlook.

You are right. Your auctions have the same chance of being messed with by someone on the EO and on the RT. Just ask Fluffy. Granted, you have to have tougher skin to survive the RT and at times you'd like to take someone and choke them, but you end up just rolling with the punches.

Now where did I say that Helenjw. I said nothing of the kind. What I said was "I would list it here but since I post in the RT I hate to show my seller ID. I hope you understand". It is no ones business what I sell.
You are the one that brought it up about interferring in auctions not me. It is unbelieveable that you would assume I would think something like that. I prefer to be private in that area. I do have rights and that is one of them. I honestly don't care what posters sell as it is their business and theirs only.

Libra, If you review my comment you will see that I used your exact quote.
You said, "I would list it here but since I post in the RT I hate to show my seller ID. I hope you understand."
My comment addressed the obvious inference that would be drawn from that statement.
I did not find fault in your decision not to reveal your selling ID. I understand that.

Helen - I don't draw that inference from her statement. I don't think she was attacking the QUALITY of folks who populate the boards. The RT, by nature, is a place where people can, and DO, state their opinions on everything from politics to religion. EO is a place where people post on a more experiential nature on topics (oftentimes LOOSELY) related to ebay.
Folks just are more passionate about things posted on the RT and I don't blame Libra for her decision to keep her ID private. I don't post on the RT for that very same reason.

Maybe you are right, neglus. But with the number of derogatory statements that have been made here about the RT it's understandable that many will draw that inference, just as I did. Since I started posting there in 2000, I've never met a single opponent that I believe would take revenge by interfering with my auctions. And the opportunity was available because I've posted my seller ID there.
As I've said before, I support and understand Libra's decision to keep her auction ID private.
Peace!

Hi
I have to agree with Libra63
I also don't feel it's necessary to even ask a person there selling name. This is all by choice and if Libra likes to have his privicy we all should just respect that.
If he wanted his selling name to be known he would be using it.
As for me I have been in here since it all began ...about 8yrs or so and I have always used my selling name, but this was my choice.

Remember, it's not just the posters who read these boards - I'll bet the number of lurkers outnumber the identified posters (probably more the EO than the RT but who knows?)
The idea of auction interference may be a little paranoid but in a place as public as this, one never knows. Some folks always put toilet paper on the seats in public restrooms and others take their chances

BTW Libra, can you tell us GENERALLY what the item is - or is there anything weird, gross etc about it? It must be posted on a board somewhere to generate so much interest!

Sure I can tell you. It is a common book that I listed in the wrong catagory. Well not really the wrong catagory because it is a collectible book. The other sellers listed their book in the non fiction catagory. I think when they read the title, but then again it did have the date in the listing title, that they thought it was old and it isn't. I was excited to see the number of hits though. I have only had one other exciting auction and that was also a book. It sold for $362 but was autographed by Agatha Christie. I do have a bid on it but not a high one.

If posters that have been here since 2000 I didn't hide my seller ID at all. In fact I did make reference to some of my auctions. But then I quit doing that. I can't remember the exact date I started posting in the RT. Maybe 2 years ago but it was a little more relaxed than it is now. Since that time I haven't made any reference to my auctions. I can honestly say I can separate the two discussion boards as I hope everyone can because we all have something to contribute to both.
I enjoy looking things up. I do have some knowledge of vintage costume jewelry and my library is full of costume jewelry books so most of the references are here and I can check. The new costume is hard for me to talk about as I have little knowledge of that. The EO is a great learning tool and I enjoy reading and when I can contribute I will.
One more thing I never look up other people's auctions as I don't care what others sell. The only auctions I look at are the ones I am interested in. Vintage Jewelry mostly and beading.
Have a great day it is almost 50 degrees in Kenosha so it is soon out the door.

mmmm you said he B word!!!
Bbbbeads!!!
Actually, ebay has a cache of great lampwork artists selling their work. It's a great place to "discover" and "afford" their work before they get written up in the magazines.
OTOH, a lot of people are realizing that!!!

I think you are one of those and I might have bought beads from you not so long ago. Yes beads are beautiful and it is a good economical way to make jewelry. I have made some beautiful bracelets for pennies that they are charging quite a bit for. I appreciate all the bead sellers on eBay. They have great prices and even with their shipping charge way below bead store prices.
Beads remind me of that colorful hard christmas candy. Especially the furnace beads.

BTW Japerton I got some gorgeous large Lampwork beads for $1.00. Not from you though. I can't imagine all the work that goes into the beads and I was able to get those so reasonable. Now I check and the prices are probably where they should be. I wish I was younger so that I could do that kind of work...
