I have this problem all the time. I sell an item for about $25 to someone in Canada. I send them the price for a 1 pound shipping rate, buy Air mail Parcel Post so I can insure the item. I know the shipping is high, about $14. I don't want to send it without insurance. What would you do? Most of my customers pay with Paypal. Thank you, Bill

1 lbs AIRMAIL LETTER POST (registered mail) to CANADA is only $11.75 including INSURANCE -- jyst remember that ALL seams must be covered with PAPER TAPE only!

Or, far cheaper: insure via a 3rd party insurer such as DSI:

Tracking? Tracking?! You don't need no stinkin' Tracking! -- when insuring International packages through DSI.

Sorry - Tom. Didn't mean to take away your chance for a response. Just had that in my head when I saw the question. And, it's right, too.

There ain't no tracking available for LETTER or PARCEL POST item -- I just use the CUSTOMS DECLARATION number.

Two days ago i was at DSI site trying to get some insurance for a package going to Canada and it asked for tracking number.
I shipped the item in a global priority envelope with no customs declaration form as it weighs under 16 lbs.

SW:

"16 lbs..." THAT's a TYPO, right?

Anyhoo, even if ya meant 16 oz, METHINKS ye be INCORRECT-o-MUNDO:

WHY are you buying INS off the site??

YES, they cover INTERNATIONAL packies -- use the CUSTOMS DECLARATION number...

ALL dutiable packages REQUIRE a CUSTOMS FORM -- why insure sumptin if it has no value??

Now, you may think that <1lbs dutiable items DON'T -- I sure donna chance it

I've had DSI pay a claim to Canada, no tracking number, just regular air letter rate.

If you don't want to go with a 3rd party (which I think is stupid not to, as the USPS makes it VERY difficult to file an international claim, start with needing to wait NINTEY DAYS TO FILE) - It doesn't make sense to me pay $10 extra so you can send it at a class of mail with insurance, on a $25 item. Your poor buyer will pay more for shipping and customs than the item cost them. My advice would be to ship air letter if you can, get a single insurance parcel with DSI. The other way is simply not a reasonable way to ship!

sometimes it is more important to have the parcel arrived than to get reimbursed if lost or damaged,USPS registered mail is logged in every step of the way, every station within the postal system(s) which handle the parcel will have to sign .
I dont mean just the postal system in USA,but Canada as well.
