I just tried to do a relisting and it seems the rules have changed??? Before we could get a 2nd relist for an item for free. Now it charges the money and we get it refunded if it sells the second time??? Is this correct? When did this change?

I just updated my new website - give me your feedback on it.

It has always been that way. You assumption of a free relist was simply incorrect. It is actually a listing fee refund if the items sells.

stonecold and agate,

Actually... it wasn't always that way. In the early days of eBay... they did give you a free relist, regardless of whether or not the item sold on the second listing. However, too many people abused this practice by choosing to relist the item, modify the description to sell a completely different item, and not get charged for the listing. So eBay changed their policy, and now will only give you a free relist if you sell the item second time around. It's been quite a long time since they made that change. (probably at least '99 or 2000). Still, I didn't want toben to think he was crazy... it was that way once!

I've been on since 1998 and it's always been that way if I remember correctly.
Would be nice the other way!!!

I've been around since 98 as well and it has always been that way at least as long as I have been around.

I've been here since '97 (just celebrated my 8th Ebay Anniversary) and I don't remember that policy. Maybe in the very early days of 1996 before it was ebay, but there is no way that this changed in 1999 or 2000. No way!

Actually it used to be the second listing was refunded if sold, and if it did not sell the third one was not refunded, but the 4th one was refunded if it sold. (Can you tell I'm persistant?) Now you need to 'copy' the auction after the second time it does not sell in order to start the new and second listing sequence again.

Well... I've been listing on eBay since '96... and I do remember getting free relists during the early years. It very well could have changed earlier than '99... like I said it was a looonnnggg time ago. Of course... sell-through rates seemed to be better then too... so there probably weren't as many relists!

I used the Wayback Machine and found an archive of ebay pages from 1998 and here is the info for relisting back then.

Relist your item

"If your item hasn't sold, and you meet certain conditions (see Seller Service FAQ), you can relist it, and if it sells we will refund the listing fee for the relisting. This offer is good for one relisting only, and the actual item cannot be changed."
