never knowing if your item has been shipped or not.

They never even acknowledge payment much less saying your item is on it's way....

That's one of the things I get the most compliments about using VD - the "you've been shipped" notice with the tracking number.

I don't send anything when I receive payment because I usually mail within the next 48 hours. I do send an email when the item has been shipped, thanking the buyer for their purchase and giving them their tracking number.

No one ever acknowledges that email but hey, I send them!

I know!

Or... how about a response like the one below:
(I didn't know that "airmail" delivery from one U.S. location to another would take up to 12 business days. Must be an awful slow airplane!...This is just a software CD I needed. Wouldn't have bid if I had known about their slow shipping! Almost would have preferred no response!)
---------------------------------------

Hi,
Thanks for your purchase and payment of the item(s) below.
Please allow 9-12 business days for delivery after date of payment that.
It is sent as an airmail packet via post-office, and should be delivered between that timframe.
Again, please remember to only count business days (delivery days) in that timeframe.

We greatly appreciate and request your posted Positive Feedback.
We will post Positive Feedback for you shortly thereafter.

Thanks Again,

xxxxx

My husband just bought a rare book he's been looking for, on the internet (not Ebay). He paid, never got an acknowledgement or any word from the seller. Book arrived about 10 days later. Nothing, nada, no word from the seller ever. I was appalled. He wanted the book and sent his money, but never knew if it was really a sale or if the payment even arrived. Big book dealer. Hmmm.

I have Vendio send out an acknowledgement when payments are received and it has been a life saver for me! I only ship once per week and state that in my auctions but we all know people don't read auction listings very well. So when I acknowledge payment I also state:

"I typically ship once a week on Saturdays. I may ship more often than this, depending on work flow. All payments received by
midnight on Fridays will be processed on Saturday. Payments received after midnight will be processed the following Saturday. If you
will need your postcard sooner than this, please email me so I am aware of your request and can ship your card within your
time-frame."

I have had a few people request their postcards sooner but most say my timeframe is fine with them as long as they know. I also send a shipping notification when I ship.

When you print shipping labels from USPS or PayPal, a notice is sent out to your buyer that includes the DC number. Since I ship generally within 24 hours (not weekends, though) and print the label once payment is received, I don't take any other steps.

I know what you mean. I don't buy very often, but as soon as I ship a pkg., I email the buyer & tell them #1 how it was shipped i.e.Priority Mail or FedEx Ground & #2 when to expect it. I ge many replies thanking me for the info.

I always send a notice of delivery, which sometimes includes the delivery confirmation number on a Media Mail package.

I get one "thank you" or acknowledgment per 30 or so notices. But I usually am more grateful for the positive feedback they leave instead and I never have a "package not delivered" email. I find that the electronic delivery confirmation for Media Mail expedites my packages. All are delivered within the 10 day delivery span USPS quotes, but most are as fast as Priority rate. It's the scanning thing........

We always email customers after their order has shipped and give the tracking/shipping number. We also overestimate the delivery time so they are surprised at how quick the package gets to them (good psychology!). We get a lot of feedback as to speed of delivery and quality packaging we use - important in our business line.

Our goal is to ship within a day or so of payment, and since our local post office is open 6 days it's pretty easy to deliver on that goal. On the downside we don't accept credit cards (or PayPal) which many US customers seem to think everyone accepts. Fortunately, the majority of our international customers have good old cash (Euros, Yen, Pounds, CHF...) which we are more than happy to have direct credited to our bulging bank accounts

Which explains why you are always posting on these boards about customers of yourS complaining to you, "Where is my item"

You clearly need to send better and more personal notices via e-mail.
