Does anyone have any clue as to why our photos appear crisp and clear on our PC, and in our ebay ads on our PC, but when we check them on other PCs the pics all appear blurry and distorted?

We tried not reducing the photo image size at all, other than simple cropping, before the upload to Vendio, as was suggested to us by en ebay help tech. However, that did not seem to solve the problem. (We also ran into this same thing when we used ebay itself as our picture hosting service.)

The type of camera we are using is a Canon Power Shot S50, set most of the time on AUTO.

Any advice or input on the subject would be greatly appreciated. Either a reply to this post, or else a private email to [email protected]

Thanks much in advace!

Bruce

Hi Bruce, they dont look blurry on my computer? Perhaps its a plugin or graphics card (or whatever controls image viewing) on that particular computer your using?

Your AOL browser, by default, is set to compress graphics on the web. Go to settings, click on internet (web) options, click the tab that says AOL Browser. Check the box that says "Never compress graphics" Save that setting, delete temporary internet files and restart your computer. Your pictures will now be clear.

I guess my real question is this: Why do our ad pics look clear on our PC using AOL, but look blurry on other PCs using AOL. While some other Vendio user's ad pics look clear on all the PCs using AOL that we've been checking?

It's very strange.

Thanks, Bruce

The other only thing I can tell you is, I had a similar problem one time and they told me my profile in windows was screwed up. (I think I disabled windows messenger and some other things I was in the mood to play with one fine day) what they told me to do was create a new user name. But I have a tendency to agree with sparks and think it's some files hooked up with the browser that got waylayed. You might want to try the create a new user thing on that computer and see what you get with it. You can always remove it later.

edit to add: New user in windows. NOT vendio or anywhere else.

You say that you don't reduce the photo soize. What is the size that you are putting in to your auctions? I standardize all of my pics at 550X412 & they come out great.

Could someone please take a look at a recent ad of ours and check it for photo quality? the first image of the box is a scan, and the second is a shot we took with the camera in question.

Any blurriness, distortion?

Also, what are your opinions on adding animation to the ad/ads? Download time, etc.

Thanks again for all your help.

Bruce

It's loads fast for me, but I have DSL. It might be different with dial-up. My suggestion would be to dump the animation. It's too distracting. Same with music! Never, never use music. I hate it and I think most viewers do as well.

Hi: The pictures look fine to me, no real blurriness or distortion. The second one (with your camera?) is just a tad less crisp than the scanned one but still readable and okay in my book.

OK, all, I hate to keep this up, but could any of you also go to our ebay store and check out some of our clothes ads, as that is where we encounter our greatest deal of fraustration--clothes on manequinns. We've tried standrad manequinns, white color torso forms, black color forms, changing the backdrop--everything! But no luck. Still the constant blurriness and distortion on so many other PCs than ours.

Thanks so much to everyone for their input, advice, suggestions. We greatly appreciate them all!

Hi, Bruce, Went into your store & the pics look AOK to me. I too am on DSL, so this may make some difference, though I don't why it should. They just come up quicker.

Ok, Everyone, I will try not to let this throw me anymore, and simply go with things as is.

Do you think though that it might be wise to start including in our ads instructions--for those viewers on either AOL or Compuserve--on how to turn off the NEVER COMPRESS GRAPHICS setting on their computers? Not pushing it, mind you. Simply throwing it out there in case anyone else is encountering the same dreaded "blurries" when trying to view our ads.

Thanks all so very much--you help and input has been great!

Sincerely,

Bruce

A JPEG is an approximation of your original image and every time you edit and save (compress) a JPEG you are making a copy of a copy. I wonder if that may explain why some of your photos appear blurred even though they are basically the same image.

Helenjw:

That's what we were told initially, too. But even when we upload images that have not been altered in any way (cropped, sizing, edited, etc.), they still appear blurry to so many people viewing them--including us on PCs other than our own.

It is so strange, and we'd really like to get to the bottom of it; as it is definitely putting a crimp in our sales.

Thanks for the input.

Hello, All:

Great news! After hitting the dump cookies/delete files and DO NOT COMPRESS images buttons on AOL, all of our pcitures came back as sharp and as clear as we were initially seeing them!

Thanks so much to everyone for their ideas, suggestions and input. You all have been just great!

With much appreciation,

Bruce
