April 22, 2005 11:03 AM ET

SAN JOSE, Calif. (AP) - EBay Inc. said Friday that it launched a Web site to bring the online auctioneer's services to Poland.

The eBay Poland Web site allows individuals and small business in that country to list and sell goods and services with prices listed in the local currency.

"We are pleased to expand our footprint into Eastern Europe and bring new opportunities to a growing community of e-commerce users," said Matt Bannick, eBay International president, in a statement. "Many thousands of people in Poland are already using eBay, and we look forward to working with them to build their own dedicated Web site."

On Wednesday, the company reported first-quarter earnings of $256.3 million, or 19 cents per share, on revenue of $1.03 billion.

EBay shares fell 89 cents, or 2.7 percent, to $32.19 in late morning trading on the Nasdaq.
