PAYPAL INVASION OF PRIVACY!

We have multiple web sites, and although we use another processor that covers all four sites, we use the “verified by PayPal,” in our border of the page and have for years; just as an added incentive that we are a reliable company. We are “Verified by PayPal,” but we do not actually USE it for our web sites. Way too expensive.

HOWEVER, while I was gone to my Mom’s funeral, PayPal suspended our Premiere Account because of something we were selling on one of our WEB SITES!!! I called them and informed them that we use PayPal for nothing but eBay and I felt it invasive and nosey to say the least, to be checking out my web sites. In addition, that they ought to know, as a major company, whether or not I am running one of their stupid shopping carts.

Goodness, Big Brother is everywhere!

I’ve about had it with PayPal and eBay.

But...but...,er,ah??

Tain't you being a mite wee bit mis-leading there?? If you don't accept PayPal on yer web-sites, the WHY FUR GOODNESS SAKES do you mention PayPal at all???

THAT gives the appearance that you want to offer yer buyers a sense of security without the expense of actually offering PayPal...

And then you are upset that PayPal calls you on it??

They get in hot water with the FRENCH & the GERMANS and who knows who all about FIREARMS and JARTS and MONKEY-PORN, etc, etc...

WHAT were ya selling??

IF WHAT you were selling violated PayPal's TOS, then YES, their legal department (of course) will insist that you remove ANY REFERENCE to PayPal from the offending web-site...

Donna seem unreasonable to me...

Although there are many problems with PayPal today, what yer describing just seems like PP trying to protect itself, its brand, its reputation -- and rightly so!

1) How did they invade your privacy? Seems a website is a public thing

2) Are you sure this is the reason you were supended

3) I agree with Tom, using their logo on a site that you don't accept paypal is dishonest. Just because you've done it for years doesn't make it any more right!

I'm sorry to hear about your mother.

Didn't anyone else notice that she was at her mom's funeral? I don't mean to get preachy, but it doesn't seem like the right time to pick on her.

One of your competitors tried to sabotage you. SOMEONE REPORTED YOU!

Yeah like paypal has the time to hunt down the paypal verified imaged all over cyberspace and cross reference anything.

Someone tried that against me about 6 months ago because my site had adult items but I quit selling adult items on Ebay when they quit processing payments in mature audiences 2 years ago.

My site doesn't take paypal either. Nor did I have paypal buttons anywhere on the site.

I called them and they said it was reported to them.......... I told them they should know better than to take the word of some random anonymous email and to feel free to access my account transactions related to Ebay and other transactions.

My account was restored that instant because of course they didn't find any problems or terms violations.

Lovepotions...I was thinking the same thing, but my guess would be a complaint from a customer who is mad because they can't use Paypal to pay for something. The suspension of jwpc's account is merely a move to force them to remove all references to Paypal from their websites, or to start accepting paypal. Since they don't have an active paypal account anymore, use of Paypal's name could be viewed as copyright or trademark infringement and Paypal could put the legal squeeze on them to change their website design. Sort of like VERO in reverse.

are we in twilight zone?
coming back from mother's funeral and take the time to come to this board to whine about paypal policy!
if she is not accepting paypal on her websites as the rates are too expensive, then why the hell does she want to post the paypal verified sign ?
does a buyer feel more confident if she is paypal verified and yet she does not accept paypal on her sites??
and how does paypal invade her privacy when she has a site where anyone can access?and is she invading paypal privacy by displaying paypal sign without patronising paypal??
I would think restoring her paypal premier account would be priority number one for her lest her ebay bidders will think something lulu is going on ??

This is understandably an emotional time for her, and sometimes it helps to get angry at a third party. Especially an easy target like PayPal.

I lost my mother recently, and I wasn't fully compos mentis for some time; arguably, I'm not quite there even now.

Sorry, I donna see where one has anything to do with the other...

While I'm sure everyone here (including Ralphie & I) extend our condolences to jwpc, I don't agree that eliminates one's ability to respond to an ill-concieved rant...

The amazing thing about PayPal is not that there is so many problems & disasters with it, but that there are so few...

tomwiii,

I'm not disputing your right to respond to a rant. I'm just suggesting that sometimes, when one understands that someone is ranting because they're tired, or drunk, or insane, or as I believe is the case here, emotional, it is just as good to find something else to pay attention to.

But, hey, it's America: respond away

I too am sympathetic to JWPC loss, however I must also state that she has been suspended from various auction sites in the past and this is simply an extension of her personality and likely well deserved.
