I found a pair of cuff links this weekend that test 18K and have a patent applied for 1695. I think this is the number not the date. They also have a maker mark but I don't recognize it.
Isn't there a site that that will give you the information if you have the number?
I guess they could be English or something like that and I don't have a clue how to tell. Anyone???
Also what would be the best way to clean them.
Thanks

I don't know if this is right but I use my silver cleaner cloth. Use something soft.

This site: http://www.uspto.gov/patft/index.html lets you search by patent numbers. Recent applications (2001-2005) can be searched by terms. 1695 can't be a date and number is have seen have more than four numbers. Do you mean 1965/1995?

Good luck with your search.

It's definitely not the year 1965/1995. These are very old - maybe early Victorian. Libra site dated 1695 as a number for 1840 or as 1862 for a design patent number.
All it says "Pat Apl 1695" on one side and a hallmark of some type on the other side.
I'll try to get a photo posted later after I clean them.
Thanks for both sites

If they are made in the USA with a patent date of 1695 it would put them about between 1840 and 1841

Don''t clean them, leave the patina on. The buyer can always clean them but you can never put the pataina back on after you clean them. That should go for any jewerly.

I think the number 1695 is the patent number and that dates around 1840, 1841 if I can remember the graph. I don't think they list the patient date but the patent number.
