I was rooting around looking for stuff to put on and found a large shoe box full of matchbooks and small match boxes. None seem to have been used. I bot them from an older couple who were going to God's waiting room at the retirement home. They had travelled all around the world and must have been gamblers.
The box smells of sulphur. Should I take the matches out by taking out the staple??
they are from Texas, Nevada, Miami and so on. There is a box of matches with silver heads on the matchstick??

No, Leave the matches in place. The matchbook collectors also want the matches in tact. Most will want to buy "lots" meaning many match books in one listing. You should do quite well with those. You may want to wait till Fall to list them however. To slow this time of year.

By all means keep the matches in! And the matchbooks are more valuable if the striker plate hasn't been struck on even once. In other words, I suppose, the best books were picked up by someone who never smokes or needs to light a campfire, LOL.

thanks Roadsmith - most of them are intack and no strikes. just have to do some research to see what they are worth.
I would rather put on a group that one individual matchbook for 3.00
