I always pay with Paypal, but lately I've been getting people saying they won't take my Paypal payment because I'm in Canada and they don't confirm addresses. The people who I've bought from say they aren't covered with the "Seller Protection" if the address isn't confirmed. Since the only confirmed addresses are in the U.S., how does that work? And what's "Seller Protection"?

kraftdinner,

what it boils down to is, some sellers are fearful that if you try to stiff them by claiming you didn't receive the item, for example, they won't get $ back from paypal...for them to be eligible for paypal's more-or-less nonexistent "seller protection," they need to ship to a confirmed address (i think that would be confirmed via your credit card or bank account) and a delivery confirmation receipt.

my husband is canuck, hmmm, i thought we could confirm canuck addresses, maybe not (we use a u.s. address mostly). we all know there are no reliable banks in canada

as a seller, i ship to "unconfirmed" addresses anywhere. what they're basically telling you is, they don't trust their customers all that much. so if you can't confirm your canadian address, try for sellers who realize that life exists beyond the u.s. borders

that reminds me of my nail tech...whose sister lives in wisconsin. when i mentioned canada one day, she paused and said "you know, i don't really know where canada IS." roflmao - what, does she think the earth drops off? where does she think she'll go when she gets to her sister's house in northern wisconsin and heads a little further north?

or...the veterinarian who asked me: "so, what happens when you get to the border? is there like a big fence there or something?" tried not to laugh, as i needed my dog vaccinated and said "well, no, there are _roads_ just like here...you DRIVE across)

I believe Canada and UK addresses can be confirmed now.
Confirmed address is the addr where your credit card issuer sent you the monthly statement,it can be your home,po box or office.
Paypal provides seller protection to anyone who ships to the confirmed address with online trackable DC,and if the transaction is over 250 dollars,a signature receipt in addition to the online DC is required.
So,in the case of a Canadian or a UK resident buying from a US seller, the addr may be confirmed but it is not that easy to get an online trackable DC if the seller is using the postal system, say plain first class mailing.
Online trackable DC for overseas packages would have to be mailed expresss which is expensive or registered, which is also expensive.
Someone else may come and shed more light on this matter-is registered mail trackable online??
Of course if seller ships DHL,UPS or Fed exp, there is no problem tracking the package online.

thanks, kraft.

my other favorite story. i was at a cook-out one day and struck up a conversation with a man who, as it turned out, had managed a mcdonald's at some point. he asked me what it was like in canada. i said "pretty much like here" (only better, is what i was actually thinking). "you know, mcdonald's, burger king, wal-mart, etc."

he said: "they have mcdonald's there? and wal-mart? wow!" really, that's what he said.

i didn't bother to torture him by telling him about tim horton's...man, i sure would like a timmy's iced cappucino right about now!

tv sucks here too, btw.

LoL... that's good! I love the misconceptions about Canada. It was some time ago, but I had a person from the U.S. ask me if I could see caribou herds where I lived.

P.S. I'll telepathically send you a TH iced cappucino - a large one.

oh thank you, kraft! i'm cheap, i'll be your friend for life if you'll telepathically send me that cappucino!

no doubt you live in ninavut, to see "caribou herds," eh? rofl. watch out when you go to timmy's - a polar bear might eat you! have heard canada described many times as the "frozen tundra." but hey, looking on the bright side, it shouldn't cost us much to build an igloo when we go back.
