Have him go online and check the surplus auction schedule for GSA to see if they have any auctions scheduled during that period in D.C. or close by.

Only ones that I know of any more are in DC: Georgetown, and Capitol Hill. Check www.collectors.org for tons in Baltimore -- not familiar with any of them (except I didn't think the Columbia one was still open) -- call to see if they're active before heading out.

If there is any way you can come in early on Wednesday 8/3 I would go to Crumpton on the Eastern Shore. It's about 35 minutes from Annapolis. It is a very well known East Coast auction - many dealers come from up and down the East Coast to attend - it's every Wednesday starting at 9 a.m. and has 3 sales going on at once - one lower end household/flea market stuff; one 'better' furniture; and one indoor of smalls that go around table to table and you can get some incredible deals. I live about 20 minutes from there, and try to go every week. It is well worth the trip, and it's best to go with at least one other person - it's exhausting but a fun, almost all day event. If you are interested, I'll check back and provide further info if you'd like.
