Three times this past week I have had "Bidders" ask if I combine purhases for shipping. The last sentence in my TOS states "I will combine purchases for shipping" OMG, people are lazy or illiterate.

They're not even interested in buying anything, Sanmar. They're just trying to harvest your email address when you answer them. They're building a new spam list for the next round of spoof Ebay and Paypal emails that they'll be sending out.

yep, i always mark that option to make my e'mail address invisible when i respond via eBay. if they want to talk to me so bad, they can do it after they buy the item!
haven't gotten one single eBay or PayPal spoof since i a) stopped answering e'mails in which the answer to the question is clearly posted in the auction and b) started using eBay's internal messaging system. i have to admit, eBay had a good idea when they internalized the messaging system.

Thanks for the heads up. From now on I'll do just that. I am never too old to learn something new.

My 2 cents - The TOS on some auctions are so darn long, that it would take an hour to read them, by that time, you can't even remember what you're bidding on. Now, I know some of those terms are necessary - but some are just out of control, too long and too annoying.
I'm particularly annoyed with those parts that get put in all caps with exclamation points. I don't need to be yelled at in a TOS. For those stupid questions that you get from those who aren't harvesting your email, they just didn't read, didn't see it, or just feel better hearing it straight from the source.

caroline - i can't remember the last time i actually bought something from a seller with a long TOS - my eyes glaze over and my brain numbs as i start to read a long TOS. and i decide that their item isn't worth suffering over and move on

Read the TOS? I have alot of bidders that don't even read the TITLE!

How true Diane. Like you I sell craft patterns, mostly knitting, and people constantly ask if they can have a sweater in such and such a size, when I clearly state "pattern" in all my titles, and in large capital letter in my description say that the auction is for the patterns, not the finished items. If they don't read the title and description, there is no way they are going to read the TOS.

I'm cetainly not a know-it-all but I have some advice here. A lot of the ebay sellers do put too much TOS wording. The secret here in my experience is to write it in 3 sentences or less! This makes it more concise and simpler to read! It's just a little law school training. Any contract is much better to be fewer words! To the point and concise leaves no mystery! Just an opinion (albeit an annoying one) for anyone who is just learning the ropes.

By the way Sanmar, bidders who don't bother to read the TOS are properly refered to as bidiots.

I am a buyer and seller on eBay. I don't buy from sellers who have TOS that read as manifestos.
I have seen the TOS go on and on for paragraphs with ONE LINE of description for the item for sale.
Despite all the verbage that sellers put, it really makes no difference. I look for fair shipping costs and if they accept PayPal.

FYI: My TOS is 11 lines including the description of the item. I don't think this is too long to read to the bottom.
