Can someone please help me to identify this odd piece of equipment? Across the top of the identifying label I can make out a word that looks like fisherman. The center of the label has been totally scratched out. The lower part looks like it reads MEGDAN SALO ITALY. You evidently put your hand thru the leather strap handle and with your thumb push a lever that raises a spindle like thing at the top...when you remove your thumb, it closes immediately. Hope there are some mechanically minded men (or women) out there that know what this is. I dont knoiw where else to look...thanks

Thank you all for your help...especially Caroline. I'm sure, now, that it has something to do with weaving but it is a very small hand held thingie and why does it say Fisherman on it. Maybe its for making fishing nets??? Thanks again!!!

Or possibly for repairing them.

No, I'm saying -- I'm merely -- I'm saying what I'm saying. I don't know why I'm always having people say, are you trying to say -- you know what you can do if you want to know what I'm saying is listen to what I'm saying. What I'm saying is what I said ...
