Well - ebay celebrated the 9year anniversary last year on Aug 31 last year (Tues) by giving us a 50% Sale - let's hope they at least match that on the 10th anniversary! Egad!! I am beginning to sound like dbest!

Sounds like a good possibility to me. I'm like you, wish they would have something. I need some extra money to order merchandise for E-Bay and my Danville store.

If we schedule a bunch of auctions for say, September 2nd, then wait until we get sale notification on 8/31 and launch all those scheduled sales then - do we still get the reduced price?

Caroline - you mean schedule on ebay? Do they charge if you schedule and cancel or make changes to launch date? I would think that as long as they are launched on the sale date (if it does indeed come), then you would get the reduced listing fee. You can't schedule ON the ssle date to launch in the future and get the lower rate (I remember that from earlier listing sales).

Yes, I mean schedule on Ebay - as far as I know there are no fees to make a change and launch on the sale date. Anyone know anything different?
I know I tried to schedule later auctions during a listing sale only to find that the fees in effect when the sale launches is what is charged.

The "kids" at ebay are as much creatures of habit as we all are... my bet is the 31st will be at least a half price list day. Neglus thanks for coming up with that date. I will be busy getting ready for the launch. Remember the good old days of a free list in the middle of the summer as well as the middle of the winter... AAHHH sure would have helped this summer! Taken a BIT of the sting out of so many NPBs and all the foolishness we all (many of, most) seem to have endured this summer. OK off to gather up a pile and get busy!!!

Wish we'd get a Free Listing Day.
1/2 off and 10-cent listing days haven't really been worth it - you save cents off fees, but lose dollars on sale prices because final prices are suppressed due to so many items being listed at the same time.

sthoemke,
thank God, someone finally seems to see my point about it...i don't find 10-cent listing days (or FLD for that matter really) all that useful, due to the grossly inflated number of listings at those times like you mention. i kind of cringe when the 10-cent and FLD listing days come along - my sales are noticeably down when those are running.
i view them as just a way for eBay to inflate numbers reports for stockholders and Wall St....

Sale days are great...If you have a 10 cent listing fee you only have to have sell-thru of 1/3 of what you normally do to do just as good as a regular day (assuming your reg listing fee is 35 cents). I always do much better than that on the discount days.
Too many obsess with selling everything, that rarely happens anyway.

It depend if you price you items high (retail value), or low (1 cent or 99 cents). I usually have better luck by having a low starting prices.
During the last 10-cent listing day, sell-through rate wasn't very good, and I had many items sell between 1 cent - $1, which would have usually sold for at least a few dollars.

I love the sale days! For one thing, it gives me impetus to "clean house" and relist all of the things that have not been put in my store yet. I don't list items for the first time during sale listing days because typically the sales are "one-bid wonders". My store sales do very well during the FLD or sale listing periods - auction sell through rate is not so hot, but the spin off business is terrific! I find my sales rise exponentially with the number of active auctions I run.

Wouldn't they have announced it already? Those 1/2 price or free upgrades do me no good. When they have those promos, everyone is using them so what good are they?

They usually announce the specials at about 5 pm Pacific time as I remember...I'm thinking that even if they had one scheduled they won't do it because of the hurricaine - wouldn't be fair not to give those sellers a chance.

Actually, if you check the eBay history, you will see that the official launch day was "Labor Day week end" in 1965. It is unlikely that any kind of promotion will occur on that holiday, so look for either September 1, or the following week.
Considering that most of the US is either glued to the devastating unimaginable tragedy of Katrina, or in sticker shock over gas prices (we ALL know that our local service station did not pay 42c more per gallon overnight, yet that was the price jump this morning), not sure I really want to list at the moment, free or promotional day or not.

I think you are right about them holding off because of the hurricane. I don't think it would be very fair to do it now. I am going on vacation next week so hope they wait until the week after if they are going to do anything worthwhile.

I certainly hope they don't offer a promotion this week, or over the weekend. Bids, and listings from the affected parts of the gulf would be non-existant. Even outside the zone of devastation, there are millions of people without electricity. Even though Katrina has tamed considerably, the remnants are still wreaking havoc with flooding, tornadoes, and high winds and power outages as far north as Ohio. By this weekend, New England will feel the effects. At any given time, there will be millions of people who will be unable to list or bid, or will be too busy with more important things to take advantage of a promo. Definitely not a good week for many Ebay buyers and sellers.

I doubt we'd get a FLD for the 10th anniversary. Maybe a 10-cent listing day.
