These two teeny (1 inch tall) plastic dolls belonged to the mother of an elderly friend. I couldn't find any marks other than the number "36" on the back of one and "63" on the other. Any information is appreciated...Thanks!

Could they be Christmas carollers? I have no idea who the maker could be, but they're sweet! If these were mine, I'd post the picture on the toys message board (Ebay).

Thanks, Roadsmith...I haven't had much luck with posting on eBay boards and have found the good folks here much more helpful and knowledgeable...I'll try eBay as a last resort. I hadn't thought of the Christmas carolers but you may be right...

I wonder with the numbers on the back if they were part of a set. Like Roadsmith said, perhaps Christmas carollers? Or an xmas display. They are so small, is there any way to hang them up like a Christmas ornament?

With the numbers on the backs, they might have been part of a set. There's no way to hang them...like ornaments. They do stand up. I'm guessing they may date from the 1930's or 1940's but am wondering who made them.

Will probably be difficult to pin down the maker - I wonder if you could call these celluloid rather than plastic. I'm not quite sure of the difference though.

You might try googling Celluloid German Christmas Set - or a few variations to see what comes up. I scrolled through completed sales for celluloid German doll, etc and didn't see anything similar to your dolls.

At first I thought it was Little Lulu and Red Riding Hood.....

They do appear to be singing, so my answer is carolers as well. Perhaps they are not from a set as much as from a series.

Is there anything on the bottom? Probably not but I thought I'd ask

Great info, all...thanks! I, too, thought of Little Red Riding Hood but, after looking more closely at them, tend to think they're probably Christmas carolers. Celluloid is probably right too...does anyone know of a sure-fire test to tell if it's that and not plastic? No, there's nothing on the bottom. I'll try a Google search with various words to see if I can come up with anything. Ah...the mystery!
