I'll be away from a computer for about three weeks, getting a total knee replacement and then rehab for a couple of weeks. I'll miss you all. Try to get along without me! ~Adele
P.S. If you've had that surgery, please let me know how it went for you.

Will you have to go thru computer detox first?

Thanks, y'all. This surgeon has done 5,000 knee replacements, so I know I'm in good hands, and I'll be faithful to do the exercises they prescribe, too. Had hip replacement in 1998 and recovered beautifully because, though I hate to exercise, I did what I was told. I'll just miss these boards and the give and take here.

Cherished: "Computer detox" is right! Maybe I can sneak a peak at our message board in the convalescent center?! Truly will be the longest I've been out of contact with the world for a long time, although my husband will bring me mail, etc. Yikes.

Take care Roadsmith, and here's to a speedy recovery. My wife will be facing the same thing in a few years. Have hubby go to RTO and rent you a laptop for a couple months. My son had back surgery, and with a little practice, they work quite well during recuperation.

You pals are so nice, you've brought tears to my eyes. I guess I'm mostly afraid of pain--but of course I have pain now, so what's the diff?
I appreciate your words of encouragement and your advice, too. It helps to know others have been happy to get the knee replacement.
Sparkz, my husband has a laptop; it crashed two days ago and the maker is sending a new hard drive. As soon as it's running smoothly, I'll be able to use it when I get home (ebay office is on ground floor, living quarters are up stairs, where I'll be until I can maneuver on stairs again). By hook or by crook, I'll. Be. Back.

Ummm...Roadsmith, my wife has two arethroscoip surgeries on her knee, and I can tell you that you wont be navigating stairs for quite some time. In fact, thick carpets will be a problem. Have hubby hire a couple high school football players to get your bed downstairs until you're in shape to tackle those stairs.

Yay, Adele!!! ... go for it.
Yes, do all the PT's tell you do, and then some. The more you ambulate, the farther you will regain your strength and range of mobility ... If your hip turned out great, this will too.
Hang in there, babe ... my thoughts and prayers are with you.

Good luck and great recovery! It should make you feel a lot better and get around just like new. My aunt had the surgery at age 70 and did very, very well.

Best of luck, Roadsmith - my Uncle had a complete knee replacement - he had BOTH done at the same time. He was like a new person after that. I was surprised, it did not take as long for him to heal and get back moving around as one would think.
Let us know how it goes! We'll be thinking of you.

Sparkz: It ain't that easy! A bed downstairs on the lower level will mean 3 steps up and 3 steps down just to get to the bathroom. I'll be upstairs where it's all one level--but my husband will set up his laptop on the dining room table so I can be online again, once I'm home.
Our house is very interesting; it used to be the servants' quarters for the even bigger house a couple hundred yards away. Two levels; the lower was all garages for the guy's limos (pres. of US Steel), upstairs essentially a spacious two-bedroom apartment, living room, dining room, kitchen, bath. About 20 years ago the lower levels were closed in for a sitting room, two big offices, laundry room, and another bathroom--but little stairs abound on that lower level. Not especially designed for invalids or surgical patients!
Fifi the maid (or whatever her name was) used to prepare breakfast every morning and maneuver a tray down a little hill to the master's bedroom before doing the housework. The chauffeur/handyman kept things in order and drove the guy and his family all over these mountains.
But WE have the killer view; the "big house" doesn't. Tadaaaa.

Adele, when do you have to leave to have this surgery? And how many days do you have to be gone from your home?

We're leaving in a couple of hours, driving an hour off the mountain to Loma Linda to stay overnight in a motel and make my surgery appointment tomorrow morning (that way, we avoid any possible freeway delays tomorrow). I'll be gone from home about 17 days--3 days or so in the hospital, two weeks in the convalescent center (Heritage Gardens in Loma Linda--I think they have facilities all over the country but not sure). I'm going to forget where things are in my kitchen AND in my eBay office!
I think I'm all organized to go, puff puff.

Adele,
Have a friend just had her hip replaced a month ago & she recuperated at my house. She did beautifully & you will too. She said the pain was not bad & much, much, much less that she had before her sugery.
She was up & walking with crutches the day after her sugery & while she was here we went shopping most every day & out to dinner a couple of times.
You'll do just fine too.
Come back & tell us all about it.
We will miss you.
