Hi everyone, not sure if you remember me, but I'm back! Looking to do a bit of selling again. I'm sure this has been discussed many times over, but I came across an article that eludes to the fact that the BEST day and time to end an auction is on a Sunday from 6:00 to 9:00 PM PST.

Hope I'm allowed to post this link: http://www.auctionbytes.com/cab/abu/y205/m02/abu0137/s03

I suppose it matters on what you're selling, becuase I, and many others have had good luck ending auctions on Sunday afternoons, Tuesday and Thursday nights, etc. Having said that, I found out early on in my part time eBay career that ending on Sundays (afternoon or evening) worked quite well. But in this day and age, automated sniping is more rampant than ever, so it may not be as important.

Any thoughts on this?

Question: I have some rare, but bulky (read: expensive to ship) car rims plus a few other rare 70s car accessories. Some are small, some are large and expensive to ship so I hope the shipping costs don't scare off people, or hope local people will bid in it and pick up in person. My guess is that it will best to run a 7-day auction starting & ending this Sunday evening.

Then I've also got some computer CDs (graphic design related) to sell for my boss. Not sure about when to list. It could appeal to graphic designers working from home, students in graphic design, employees at a company, small businesses, etc. Some CDs I have only one copy, others I have about 2 or 3 copies. About 25 titles in all. Any thoughts on the best day/time to list?

I've always found Mondays 6-9pm the best time to list/end auctions. Maybe because you get the people who log on then to pay for the items they won on Sunday, and people who log on from work or school on Mondays.

Thanks kraftdinner! How do you make the link clickable like that? Normal html doesn't seem to work...

And, I would have never thought of ending auctions on Monday nights, I'll have to try that sometime. If I ever listed on a weeknight, it was always a Tuesday or Thursday, sometimes a Wednesday. In all honesty, there did't seem to much of a difference, guess it depends what type of items you're selling.

I've always used Sundays to end auctions - Saturdays night auctions have always stunk so bad. That's a great tool - I wouldn't have guessed Monday as being a good day either.

To make your link use the following, but remove the * (which I just used so I don't actually post the link):

Thanks Caroline! I'll remember that for next time I post a link.

Also, I might try an experiment and list something on a Monday, Sunday and maybe also some other weeknights just as an experiment. But, common items with a predictable selling price. The only days I don't ever use to end auctions are Friday and Saturdays, they both just stink!

I find Monday nights to be pretty good except during football season. Sunday nights have been terrible since "Desperate Housewives" started.

Sounds crazy,

But I've been selling full-time on Ebay for nearly 6 years, and I have found the absolute best time to start and end auctions is Saturday mornings (between 8 AM and 11:00 AM Central Time). Makes no logical sense, but that time slot has just smoked any Sunday or Weekday time frames. It's a weekend, and it's before people kind of get moving and out of the house to start their weekend.

Sometime ago, someone did a study for a year as to when was the best time & day to start auctions. For a 7 day auction, Monday seemed to be the best day. As to time to end an auction, it was between 8 & 12 PM. I jave been doing this for the past 4 years. My auctions start & end at 11PM PST/DST. This gives the entire USA a chance to view in the evening, from the East to the people in HI % AK. It has worked very well for me. If you do a 10 day, then start on Thursday & you go through 2 weekends.

Having been caught twice when eBay had problems, I now spread my auctions around, but end them around 9PM EST.

I hadn't thought about Desperate Housewives; maybe I'll avoid that time slot.

Wow, so many different points of view on this! Looks like several studies have been done on this. The one I came across seemed to peg Sunday evenings as the absolute best, with nothing else coming even close.

I'll try spreading out my auctions, for items of which I have multiple quantities of, and will probably include a Buy It Now. There are a few rare items that will run as a regular seven day auction, and I'll stick to my trusty Sunday afternoon/evening time slot.

Has anyone else heard that 10 day auctions are not always the best becuase it drags on too long and people lose interest waiting for it to finish? From what I've read, and experienced, five and seven day auctions seem to be the best.

I used to do a lot of 10 days, but decided it really was a waste of $$. Didn't seem to make any difference.

I used them a bit more when it was no extra charge to run a 10 day auction. Since then, I rarely used a 10-day auction. Like you said, just not worth the extra expense.
